Actually, the counters from creatures with wither are for all intents and purposes considered damage, therefore it would not die as the damage is prevented by the swan.
Well, that would be according to the informative wither video posted by wizards and the FAQ's of the wither mechanic. |

| dont need to watch the video read the wording ... all DAMAGE is dealt with -1/-1 counters therefore if damage is being prevented the -1/-1 counters aren't put on. |

| Despite all evidence pointing to the contrary, I still think gypsy is right. |

Wither is a bit of an odd-ball keyword, as it does not represent any of the common abilities. It's not a replacement effect, nor something that changes the nature of damage.
How it works however is that all the damage is dealt normally and that the result of that damage is changed. Instead of 'damage points' it results in -1/-1 counters.
But for it to work, the damage has to actually be dealt. It can be prevented or redirected as normal.
Swans of Bryn Argoll will therefor prevent wither damage and replace it with card draw just fine, so no, wither can't kill the Swans either. |
