But still, he is (in an non-affinity dominated meta I should say) a million times better topdeck than Pillage in the lategame. A Pillage that you draw on turn 6-ish is nest to dead in RDW. But this guy is still a grey ogre when LD is not relevant.

The meta does not have to be affinity dominated as pillage still hits:

Jitte
Shackles
Sword of Fire Ice
Pithing needle (set to barb rings or grim lavamancers)
Ensnaring bridge? (not heavily played but I have seen SOME sb bridges)

Pillage also hits:

Mindslaver (assuming you put enough pressure on them and force them to play it and activate in two seperate turns)
Sundering Titan
Signets (end game becomes less relevant but still better than hitting lands early as you set them back a turn plus colored mana that they will most likely need as well as taking away the two mana invested)

So generally I think pillage is more versatile. Turn 5 to 6 a grey ogre is better than land destruction in most cases, but if there is a jitte or shackles on the board pillage plays mvp.
