I'm looking to put rebuff the wicked into my deck, but I'm wondering what all exactly I can counter with it.

Say a sower of temptation comes in and targets my kinsbaile borderguard. Can I rebuff it since it targets one of my permanents? or am I looking at it as a permanent now that it's in play?

basically I'm asking is would it be a good defence in my kithkin deck against faeries?

I'm probably still going to sb it for removal heavy decks(nameless, burn, terror, o-ring, etc.) but I'd like to know exactly how versatile this card can be for me.

thx for any info

Rebuff only counters spells, not abilities. Basically Rebuff can only counter Instants, Sorceries, and Auras that target a permanent you control. If you want a white instant to protect your guy, use Momentary Blink or Redeem the Lost.

I'll test around. I started off messing with mana tithe, but that was just way too situational. Now I'm messing with rebuff the wicked even though it's kind of situational it still helps against alot of spells.

Still I'll probably test with redeem the lost. Momentary blink doesn't seem like it would do much other than prevent combat damage.

I can see about the "come into play and then" ablilities, but what about "as this comes into play" abilities. If it's ability targets one of my permanents is it possible to use rebuff to counter it while it's still a spell?

I'dd advise mana tithe, it's really good in a mono W aggro type of deck, by the time it becomes irrelevant you prolley lost anyway

Rebuff the wicked is an ok spell, but I think redeem the lost is better, cuz it has the possibility to come back. Also it can make a guy unblockable or just save him from combat dmg. Basically the card has more options

You do know it stops all spells that target right? Since the creature that comes back from the RFG zone is considered a new object all spells that targetted it can't 'find' it anymore.

Creature spells never target. No matter what abilities they may have. Also, there are no 'as this comes into play...' abilities that target.

Ya, creatures never target. In fact, sometimes their abilities don't target either. Look at vesuvan shapeshifter; even if you have a crystalline sliver and gemhide sliver in play, you can still copy the gemhide sliver to tap the 3 cards for 6 manas.
