I was in a PTQ yesterday using my Ninja/Faerie/Standstill deck. Tarmoburn is probably my worst matchup, with Tron being a close 2nd. Here's my list.
// NAME: Landjutsu
// Lands
2 [FUT] Tolaria West
1 [TSP] Academy Ruins
1 [TSP] Swarmyard
1 [ON] Riptide Laboratory
1 [TSB] Pendelhaven
12 [LRW] Island (1)
4 [MOR] Mutavault
// Creatures
3 [10E] Bottle Gnomes
4 [MOR] Mothdust Changeling
4 [LRW] Spellstutter Sprite
3 [FUT] Venser, Shaper Savant
4 [BOK] Mistblade Shinobi
4 [BOK] Ninja of the Deep Hours
4 [10E] Ornithopter
// Spells
4 [DS] Echoing Truth
4 [OD] Standstill
2 [BOK] Shuriken
2 [BOK] Umezawa's Jitte
// Sideboard
SB: 3 [RAV] Shadow of Doubt
SB: 4 [TSB] Tormod's Crypt
SB: 4 [BOK] Threads of Disloyalty
SB: 4 [TSP] Trickbind
Round 1 I play against dredge. Game 1 I lay first turn mothdust, 2nd turn Jitte, and turn 3 equip. That was good game, because the Jitte could kill my mothdust if I needed to get rid of the bridges, and I just kept laying more guys on top of that.
Game 2 I keep a hand with 2 Tormods Crypt.
1-0
Round 2 it's dredge again. My opponent gets everything but 2 cards in the yard by turn 4. He flashes back a Cabal Therapy and I spellstutter it. He casts a Dread return, and ends up with about 16 zombies. I cast Echoing Truth for the win. He looks very shaken up.
But, it doesn't matter as I get crushed on turn 2 game 2, and on turn 3 game 3. I do not get a crypt either of those games. Oh well.
1-1
Round 3 it's GWB midrange. Living Wishes, Heirarchs, Genesis, Shriekmaw.... Anyways, not much to say about this matchup, as I completely anhilate him. Any forms of GWB decks are practically a bye for me. Test the deck, you'll see.
2-1
Next is one of my worst matchups. Tron. It's not so much that I can't win, it's just that it takes fucking forever. He wins game 1, and I win g2 and there's about 6 minutes left for game 3. I won't bore you with the details, but it ended a draw. The game was definately in my favour g3, oh well.
2-1-1
with 7 rounds I need 3 wins in a row. We each lay lands on our turn 1 and pass, and on my opponents 2nd turn he casts Standstill. I laugh out loud, as on my turn I Transmute for a Mutavault. I start laying the beatings and proceed to Ninjutsu out a Ninja of the Deep Hours. He breaks his own Standstill with a Stifle, to which I draw 3 cards and Spell stutter his Stifle. LOL this match was hilarious. He really had no chance. The 2nd game went pretty much the exact same.
3-1-1
My round 6 opponent cast a first turn Counter balance with Mox, and 2nd turn Divining top. I think I'm screwed but I pull out a win in somehow even with his double Goyf. I got lucky with some Echoing Truths, because he didn't have a 2cc spell on top, and Ninjutsu for Deep hours and shinobi's won it for me after sneaking some thopters into play.
Game 2 I side in 4 Trickbinds and I trickbind his turn 1 and turn 2 fetchlands. A standstill later and I just overwhelm him in little jerks and card advantage.
4-1-1
Round 7 I'm paired against my worst matchup, Tarmoburn. Game 1, he mulls to 6, and I cast a 2nd turn Standstill. He quickly breaks it, I echoing truth his creature (whatever it was) and lay a 2nd standstill. He breaks it, and I start going Ninja on his ass with Mothdust, Shinobi and the broken Shuriken, taking out his team of Kird Apes.
Game 2 I keep a hand on the draw with 1 island. I did this because I had thopter, mothdust, standstill and Ninja of the Deep Hours. I figured if 1 of my top 2 cards was a land I would win for sure. they weren't lands, and I got fucking slaughtered. LOL
Game 3 is closer, but there's just too much cheap burn when my deck is relying on 1/1's and 2/2's. Ugh.... Not to mention his 2 Krosan Grips, one taking out a Bottle Gnome, and the other taking out a Jitte with 2 counters on it.
So anyways, I was very happy with how my deck performed. It does great against combo and midrange, and is a leg up on control. Last weekend I did make top 8 at a GPT with the same deck, with only a few sideboard tweaks, and the Swarmyard.
Anyways, I ended up 13th place, and met TheBigshow, Ironicus and Bladerisen. So that was pretty cool.
Ciao! |

| Nice Deck. I think I played against you on ML. My Goblins got totally owned by Shuriken. I wonder if the Bottle Gnomes shouldnt better be Cloud Faeries. And against what Matchups are the Shadow of Doubt in the SB? |

| Lol, I meant Cloud Sprites. It makes the ninjutsu guys better and the spellshutter. Btw: Isn't Stifle better than Trickbind? And for what matchups is ist meant? |

I don't think so. The Trickbinds are mainly there for tron to hit the Mindslavers. I didn't want a situation where the Stifle could be countered.
The Shadow of doubts were additional Fetch land fuckers that also stopped Sakura Tribe Elder, Tolaria West, Trinket Mage, Gifts Ungiven.... They really but a beating on the GWB deck and the NLB I played. Unfortunately my tron opponent was using UW with FoF instead of Gifts. |

On another note, how good are the Spellstutter Sprites for you? And the Ornithopters? The 'thopters seem kinda useless besides for Ninjutsuing out critters, but I would rather just play a different one drop like Sage of Epityr for that job, just because it's not completely useless.
And the Spellstutters don't seem so great without that many other faeries. I'd rather just play Countersepell or something for when they break the Standstill, you just draw your three and then counter their spell anyway. |
