FOR THE DEVELOPERS,

I know developing websites is extra hard and very expensive. (I know, because I'm an ASP.NET AJAX programmer) And to create a resource like this is quite a feat in itself. But I request a change in platform because of the following reasons:

1) Opening ports and Installing Addons are quite dangerous actually. I know this place is safe but if people open their ports for this, it's also opened for all attacks. And since you dont teach them how to protect their systems, I think its too much to ask.

2) Opening ports require a bit more savvy. Jessy_X would never come back to this site simply because she doesnt understand how to open ports. Not all Magic players know how to do that. She's right, if you want people to come and play, you should let them (dont be so Azorius about it)

3) This is my case: I know how to open ports, and get myself connected. What I dont have is the proper permissions to do so. I can get away with this but it isnt actually proper to tunnel myself onto a server just to play free magic. Some people dont like to hack... its not something we should be proud of.

WHAT I SUGGEST:
A change in platform. Why cant we get connected when we are on the Internet already? Why not use http for the functionality? I mean, javascript works fine in most computers, why do we still have to install that Java addon? Cant we play games on an AJAX page instead?

Magic is all about getting things done (or undone). And a program is like a deck. You make it work.

Please think about it...

You are more than welcome to program a page/add on that does precisely that. The problem however is that due to logistics, we are using irc, and irc is using the 66x ports. The reason we use irc is that we have a lot of scripts that work on mirc and that make life a little easier. Also, 99.9% have no prblem connecting to irc, and people that cannot connect usually can ask a supervisor to open the ports needed.
Also, I find it very strange that on a home computer said ports are closed, since irc is not a very weird way of communicating. I can understand that when you are at work, ports that connect to irc are closed, and if that is the case, tough luck, you are there to work not to play games.
