I had begun a Wild West themed (lame, I know) set on MSE and had (what I think) are some pretty cool cards.
Grim Gallows
Rare
4 - Artifact
2W,T: Put a wanted counter on target creature.
2B,T: Destroy target creature with a wanted counter on it.
Return to Nature
Common
G - Sorcery
Destory target artifact. If you did not control the artifact destroyed in this way, search your library for a basic land card and put it into play tapped.
Dishonest Business
Uncommon
1U - Instant
If you played Dishonest Business during a draw phase, draw two cards then discard two cards or a land card.
If you played Dishonest Business during a discard phase, you may return target instant from your graveyard to your hand.
Veto
Rare
UU - Instant
Counter target spell.
You cannot play Veto unless you control a creature.
(May be broken)
Hired Guns
Common
B - Creature
3/3
Whenever Hired Guns deals combat damage to a player, that player may pay 1 to gain control of it at end of combat.
Fool's Gold Mine

Land
Fool's Gold Mine comes into play with two gold counters on it.
T, Remove a gold counter from Fool's Gold Mine: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.
During your upkeep if Fool's Gold Mine has no gold counters on it, suffle it into your library. |

First of all, having 3 mana open on turn 1 is pretty powerful (not even dark rit is reprinted anymore).
Note how Mana Burst says "up to 2 land cards" without the word basic. That's sick. |

BoW can make cards better than the first guy...nice to see originality, not just rediculous undercosted garbage. Mana Burst is auto include in almost every deck, its colorless free mana fixing + accell. Lets not talk about Souless Pact  |

Well I don't just want to repeat what everyone else said but what the hell..... Mana Burst and Soul Pact are extremely broken....bla....bla..bla...
battleofwits nice cards nothing to overpowered.....

When I flame it's because people deserve flaming by being arrogant about how good they are at what they do (deckbuilding usually, but in this case card creation) and making broad claims about the player base that are untrue.
You made cards that are admittedly broken. People said that. Then you said everyone likes broken cards. This is not true. I said why it's not true. "There's a reason they stopped printing broken cards." That reason is new players hate playing games they can't win, and good players hate playing the same deck against itself over and over. I know that you probably like beating new people with decks that are absolutely stupid broken. But it's people like you that make new people not want to play Magic. I'd consider rethinking your card design and the reason behind the game of Magic (re: interactivity and interesting mechanics, not one-sided game winning spells that let one person combo off turn one while the other person sits there going "Well this is dumb" and doing nothing). |

Point were the land should be sacrificed as opposed to discarded. But my thinking was we haven't had any broken cards since the frickin P9. . |

I think two dozen flaming posts are quite enough to establish the fact that the first set of cards were broken and badly named. And yes, there have been broken cards or "slightly fractured" cards all the time, but Wizards are getting better at that and in the current Standard I can't name one broken card.
Let's have fun making cards instead. I like BoW's ideas, except Fool's Gold Mine which is too much like a bad Gemstone -.- Let's go with more Wild West stuff... anyone read Steven King's Dark Tower series? Something similar can be worked into MTG storyline wise..

Wow, ummmmmmm... Yeah ok either that or everyone who played in tournaments was complaining (hint: yep that's what it was). Not only first turn hand dump + Balance, not only the time when every card was unrestricted, not only everything about Chaos Orb, not only the nightmare that was Mind Twist, not only Channel-Fireball first turn kills, need I continue? People pretty much complained non-stop, it's the truth, do you really know how it was when it was only ABU seriously? Trust me, when I started playing in Revised people were still complaining about ABU. |

Nightmare mine comes into play with 7 mine counters on it.
Each player's maximum hand size is equal to the number of mine counters on Nightmare Mine.
At the end of your turn remove a mine counter from Nightmare Mine.
Discard a card: Add a mine counter to Nightmare Mine, any player may play this ability. |

Also I think the new "Counterspell" should be...
(UU) Diminish
Instant
Counter target spell unless it's controller pays (1) for each land you control.
Kinda sucks early, basically a hard counter later. It's what Wizards wants a counterspell to be anyways.
PS: "High Noon" is super broken. |

Doesn't really even suck early game its worst than mana leak for 1 turn... only thing thats annoying is UU mana cost but it does make it more balanced |

I actually had "gunslinger" as a keyword for "this creature can be attached at instant speed".
I also had a card similar your Silver Revolver:
Six Shooter
3 - Artifact
Common
Six Shooter comes into play with six bullet counters on it.
Remove a bullet counter from Six Shooter: Equipped creature deals 1 damage to target attacking or blocking creature.
