Installed Apprentice, can't get it to play

When I attempt to start a goldfishing game, the server says:
19:42:58 - -- Magic-League.com Player's Security Code: xyzzy (a number)
19:42:58 - -- Magic-League.com Player says: ''Visit www.Magic-League.com for online Apprentice play!''

Have I not registered something?

The two lines you posted are returned by the game whenever you start a game. That's perfectly normal.

Have you loaded a deck? If so, you should be able to just start playing after the game starts up.

you are getting a perfectly normal startup screen.
I believe the standard settings for apprentice, as downloaded from magic-league.com, is that it doesnot draw you a hand on startup, so just press ctrl+D 7 times to get you a hand, and go start goldfishing.

Wow, you gave me a good laugh there. Just make sure a deck is loaded and play as you normally would. Those messages are just standard "welcome" messages and will appear every time you start a new game, alone or not. You can modify your nickname and personal message ("Visit www.Magic-League.com for online Apprentice play!") in the settings tab if I'm not mistaken. Good luck.
