I just realize that Braid of Fire and Upwelling go REALLY well together. I don't know how, but I m sure there is a way to abuse this... but how ?
if you have an idea, plz tell me. |

dark depths
comes in to play with 10 ice counters
when dark depths has no counters on it it becomes a 20/20 flying indestructible creature.
3: remove an ice counter from dark depths |

keep in mind that your mana pool empties after your upkeep phase. which means you can't demonfire with braid of fire's mana.
but a braid of fire+paradox haze+dark depths combo would work better.
paradox haze+braid opf fire=
turn 1 (after they're both in play): 3 mana
turn 2: 7 mana
turn 3: 11 mana
turn 4: 15 mana
so it wouldn't be hard to get marit lage in play if you could stall enough. an unanswered stone rain would cripple this, though. |

Upwelling
3G (4), Enchantment
Mana pools don't empty at the end of phases or turns. (This effect stops mana burn.)
you CAN demonfire with braid of fire's mana. That's what he was going for all along.
if there is SOME way to turn red mana into blue mana, these 2 + stasis = GG |

there is no such thing as an upkeep phase, and if you would have read the OP's post at all you would have realized he mentioned a little card called upwelling |

I'll play Repeal for one less mana than Boomerang and draw a card.

is that a joke?
301. Beginning Phase
301.1. The beginning phase consists of three steps, in this order: untap, upkeep, and draw.
302. Untap Step
302.1 (...)
302.2. (...)
302.3. (...)
303. Upkeep Step
303.1. As the upkeep step begins, any abilities that trigger at the beginning of that upkeep step and any abilities that triggered during the turn's untap step go on the stack. (See rule 410, "Handling Triggered Abilities.") Then the active player gets priority and players may play spells and abilities.
304. Draw Step
304.1 (...)
300.3. When a phase ends (but not a step), any unused mana left in a player's mana pool is lost. (...)
which means the only way you could NORMALLY use demonfire or something with braid of fire's mana would be using quicken. or something that emulates it.
but anyway, sorry about the upwelling thing, didn't notice it. even so, it spells "backfire" all over it. but it's an interesting combo, nonetheless. problem is that any bounce effect will totally ruin it.
and going into legacy for a moment: swords to plowshares. oh noes! ;p
(oh yeah, simian spirit guide = first-turn braid. don't know why you'd do it, but yeah, it's there) |

| Braid of Fire has been begging to be broke for awhile, and I'm surprised no one has done anything with it yet. |
