These are not difficult words to spell. Slow down and take your time. Think it out and proof read before you click submit. All of us literal people who use the forums would appreciate it. Thanks
Please don't put other people's English skills down when you have the English/grammar skills of a 6 year-old. |
I'm assuming that you intended to use the word literate?
Also, if you're going to point out his spelling and grammar errors, at least point out the most glaring ones from his first post also.

That may or may not be the worst "sentence" ever written.

An alot is a breed of camel. Do you mean "a lot"?
| Quote: | | The second thread I went to was awesome. It had a decklist sorted out, reasons for card choices, and match-up analisis. |
You're analising the olimpics later right?
| Quote: | | I HATE STUPID PEOPLE. really I do, and I'm sorry if your stupid, I hate you, but talk to me about it and maybe I could help you to your way to enlightenment. |
He actually managed to form a contraction. Just ignore the eight other spelling and grammatical errors. "You're sorry if my stupid"? =/ I hate you too.
By the way, for those of you who didn't get it, I was making fun of WildCard as a JOKE. As terrible as his grammar and spelling are, you aren't his English teacher, and neither am I. Try to remember, you're dealing with Americans here. If you want people who speak English correctly, you'll need to find a forum where no Americans post. I would very confidently say that the average foreigner in a country where English is not the primary language spoken will still have a stronger grasp on the use of the English language in print than the average American. Deal with it. |

I very much agree with Wildcard and Shyft. I don't have the patience to deal with stupid people.
But for the time being, I'm going to elaborate on Shyft's point for a while, because he made one that I hadn't really put much thought into before.
Think of the target audience in these forums. Magic players. How many magic players do you know aced their 9th grade english exam? Now how many do you know aced their math exam? Probably a higher percentage, am I correct? Magic players simply have a tendency to not be very good at spelling because their interests lie elsewhere.
Now, for the benefit of the critics and to pre-empt anyone who would do this anyways, lets analyze myself for the record.
I think I got about a 92 on my english exam. What did I get on my 9th grade math exam (course II math, for the curious parties)? A 97. Science (Biology)? 98. Now, fast forward to 12th grade. English - 73. Math - Non-existent. Science - Did I even take science my senior year? Why the dramatic change? Drugs. And I was mild... only pot. I think my spelling and grammar are fine.
I don't know what the statistics are, but a large portion of America's teenagers are prescribed Rytalin. For those who don't know, it is a drug widely used to help with the condition known as ADD, a.k.a. Attention Deficit Disorder. It basically helps your mind focus. It also causes a wide variety of health problems and self-esteem issues. It is also a very abused drug. Most teens and young adults who have a prescription are either not using it and selling it to prescription drug addicts or are grinding it up and snorting it themselves. Which really isn't the greatest thing to be doing to your brain.
Now, that, coupled with the pop-culture frenzy of smoking "weed" and getting "crunked" and blowing coke and taking mushrooms and acid and ecstacy, and speed and heroin and whatever else their doing these days, I'd say we've got a bit of an epidemic here. No wonder most Americans can barely speak the language. They're all too high to care. And who do we blame? We really can't blame the kids, they're only doing what they see on T.V. as the popular thing to do. Do we blame the parents? No, what are they going to do? Making something taboo only makes it more of a desirable thing to do. Can we blame the doctors prescribing the medicine, or the drug dealers on the corner? I wouldn't; they're only trying to make a buck. You know who we should really blame? The media! Sure, they're only trying to make a buck too, but they're the ones in control. They're the ones telling our kids what to do. Our kids pay more attention to the media than they do their parents. Or their teachers for that matter.
So, if you really want to do something about people speaking bad english on the forums, get involved. Take control of the media and tell them to stop influencing our kids in a way that makes them make spelling errors and look like idiots in the forums. Until then, stfu an liv ur own life sotp tryin to tell my wut to do |

And for the good of the board, no one likes kiss ups and teacher's pets. Just because Wildcard is a judge manager doesn't mean he's an untouchable, perfect, god-like person who needs his ass cleaned by your nose.
He made more mistakes in his reply than the person he was trying to bash. That's pretty pathetic to me. Almost as pathetic as a brown-noser, but not quite. You take the cake on that one. |
There's about 2 things wrong with what you said. Since you don't seem to think before you post i'll list them out.
1. He made about 1/4 the mistakes in a post that happens to be about 5x as long (at least). I'm not quite sure when 1/4 as many became more, but im interested in finding out.
And
2. You don't seem to realize this, but look at my post count. The only thread I've posted in is this one, I don't know who wildcard is, and seeing as how I now know he's the Judge manager, I can understand why you may think I'm sucking up. But as you can't see (be it your ego is getting in the way or otherwise), I'm not sucking up to anyone in this forum, and i'm just stating my opinion in referece to your complete unappropriateness towards him, no matter who he happens to be. So please get your facts straight before trying to feel better about yourself by insulting others. |

I wish you'd just shut up about the grammar thing... you know, not everybody is american -_-
What I hate the most about the forum posts are the "first, second". They just flood the topic without adding anything. I suggest a ban.
The second thing I hate the most about forum is that the "notify me when a reply is posted" is auto-checked and I have to uncheck it every time. |

hey dont like shorthand??? GET OFF THE NET!!!! |
umm let us write your message in SHORThand not internet:
jst RMbr W b t dfnT o stpd bG stpd i a Cc s f u tlk t stpd ppl jst RMbr t tll sy: u hd a Cc btwn smrt n stpd n u pckd stpd.
Ok i'm not sure if the T is a T or S for tion and W should be written out the frist time but you all know its Wildcard. I may have a few more mistakes, such as, this should all be in script. But, that is how Shorthand looks.
I will admit my English sucks. I've failed Eng 111 more times than i want to admit to. But for the most part, i believe i'm at least readable to the majority without a AOL to English translator. (Yes, I really have one) |

Definitely NOT shorthand.. It's "something you wrote w/ absolutely no thought, double checking, or revision" |

the definition of insouciance is quote: "lighthearted unconcern" as in : I regard this entire thread with insouciance. And am saddened by it greatly. KFCman... You and me.. flagpole... 3:15... J/K man.. i love ya! |

Well, since this has been separated into its own topic:
There is no excuse for the abysmal spelling and grammar that are commonplace on these boards. People who do not speak English as a first or even second language have a firmer grasp on the language than too many posters.
This is not a chat room. Believe it or not, you have all the time you need to write, proofread, and spellcheck before you click the Submit button.
Should every post be read and reread and edited to perfection? No.
Should posts consist of actual words spelled out completely and (mostly) correctly? Yes.
Should posts use capital letters to begin sentences and punctuation to end them? Yes.
Should posts be coherent? Yes. |
