After my recent peasant magic tourney at my local store I've developed a passion for T1 Peasant. So many different fun decks, tons of cards to play and a little less brokeness. Here is the formats rules/ban list.
Peasant Magic Rules
Decks may consist of at least sixty cards, containing:
* Cards from any published Magic set wherein cards were assigned a rarity value by WotC. This includes Unglued, Starter, and Portal, but does not include promotional cards or cards from pre-built sets like Vangaurd.
* No more than five (5) uncommon cards. In Peasant Magic Tourneys that permit Sideboarding, these cards may be present either in the deck or in the sideboard.
* No (zero, 0, nada, zilch, empty-set) rare cards.
* At least 55 common cards.
* There may be no more than four (4) copies of any single card except basic land.
o Snow-covered land counts as a basic land.
Card rarity
Card rarities are listed on the Wizards of the Coast website, in text files for each expansion. If a card does not have a listed rarity, then it is not allowed in Peasant Magic Tournaments. In general, all card sets listed under Starter Sets, Limited-edition Expansion Sets, and Basic Sets on that page are allowed. From Special sets, only Unglued and Chronicles/Renaissance are generally allowed.
Cards from other Special sets (like World Championship decks or Vangaurd) are allowed if the card was issued is another set with a legal rarity (Common or Uncommon). However, players must use deck protectors if their decks contain cards with different backs.
Card issued with different rarity ratings
If a card is listed with two different rarities in two different editions, use the most common rating for calculating rarity. For example, Wyluli Wolf is Rare in Fifth Edition, but Common in Arabian Nights. For Peasant Master tourneys, Wyluli Wolf is Common.
Exceptions
Strip Mine is officially an uncommon card, even though it had a version that was rated as common. This is a change from the general rule to limit strip mines in tourneys because of power. This rule is in effect at GenCon and Origins during the 2003 tourney season.
Restricted / Banned cards
Cards that are restricted or banned in Type 1, Type 1.5, and other DCI constructed tournaments are allowed in Peasant Magic, with the following exceptions, up to four (4) copies permitted in a deck.
Peasant magic official banned list
The following cards are banned for purposes of peasant magic due to irrational expense and some amount of rule breakage.
Jeweled Bird Timmerian Fiends
Bronze Tablet Brain Freeze
Ali From Cairo Bazaar of Baghdad
Berserk Candelabra of Tawnos
Diamond Valley Juzam Djinn
Library of Alexandria Mana Drain
Mishra’s Workshop
NOTE: Since appr doesn't support unhinged those cards are banned in appr tourneys. This info took from http://www.geocities.com/peasantmagic/
EDIT:
Join me and my poor friends in #Peasant to talk about the format, decide on bans, and help it to grow.
Possible ban/restrictions:
Tendrils of Agony
High Tide

| I agree with both bans. Also would like to suggest banning Starlit Sanctum. |

Every deck has its weaknesses. Necropotence decks had their weaknesses. Trix decks had their weaknesses (I assume). Ravager Affinity decks had their weaknesses. So therefore, it doesn't matter how broken something is, because it is still technically possible to beat it. It doesn't matter if it's way overpowered, considering the rest of the format. It's not completely unbeatable like Memory Jar, and therefore it's not ban-worthy.
Ishocrone loves her Tendrils decks. I heard she has like three different ones for Peasant. Makes sense why SHE wouldn't want it banned, but the people who are powerless to stop the pwnage? I think we think differently, eh? |

I like the idea for the format.
And isochrones Tendrils deck can be beaten. I've done it with T1 Peasant Zombie, so stop complaining.
I think that Lotus Petal should either be banned or restricted. I maye have more suggestions later. |

| :/ My entire point was that just because something can be beaten doesn't mean it isn't broken. Affinity was banned for being unfun as well as broken and overpowered. I say we do the same for Tendrils combo. |

very strange ban list
Ali From Cairo, Candelabra of Tawnos, Juzam Djinn, Mishra's Workshop are rares so it banned anyway
and Bazaar of Baghdad, Mana drain and Brain Freez doesn't look very impressiv worthy to get banned |

| I don't know if this is the official rules or not, but I played in a mini, and brain freeze was insane. Was really easy for my opponent to go off on turn 4 or 5, with all of the high tides, mystical tutors, AKs, merchant scrolls and other drawing. |

I don't think people realize how healthy the format actually is. While i still consider high tide to be the best, withotu unhinged legal in m-l, it loses to alot more decks than usual. Tendrils cannot hold up against Mono red, Especially if they are playing the right amount of spellshocks. Red has 50/50 games most of the time, unless mono green plays soem wierd tech. (greaves?)
I belive we do not need bans. If anyhting, we should allow unhinged! |

All the people talking about what should/shouldn't be banned obviously haven't played serious peasant ever. Tendrils broken...? I have never even heard of a Tendrils deck top 4ing (and yes I have looked through the results and followed more peasant tourneys IRL then have ever taken place on M-L). Brain Freeze was the most broken card EVER in peasant (In real peasant there is a card from unglued that untaps all lands drawn by an artist you name and also 4x Frantic Search is legal, what more can I say). There are no "rare" cards in AN only common and uncommon. Some of the cards (Mana Drain for example) are so expensive that they defy logic of being included in a Peasant format.
No, Nothing needs to be banned. Way more people play peasant then there are active members of M-L and the list works.
Also here's the worst part about Isochrone's deck in TYPE 1 peasant...
4 Lotus Petal
Whoa, TYPE 1 peasant implies that we are using Type 1 rules as in Frantic Search/Lotus Petal/Gush and such are all restricted. At least thats what I thought when I worked out my decks. |

NahHolmes....read the rules of the format before you bitch about the bans....Only those bans listed above apply. I myself didn't create them, the leading internet site on peasant did (they used to run peasant tourneys at GenCon). Brain Freeze made high tide insane!
Edit:
Also I agree with NahHolmes on the fact that Tendrils isn't banworthy. Both Isochrone's deck and High Tide can be beat and my current favorite sideboard tech (fits in most decks too) is Tormod's Crypt. |
