Should the Word "N00b" and all it's other spellings be banned for life?
Yes, it's only used by people whose IQs are lower than my current room temperature anyway.

ColdBeer 1 - The Rest of M-L 0

For those of you who are keeping score at home.

But thanks for everyone who put an intelligent opinion on this lowly thread. It does bother me that labeling people who are new to the game can destroy their chances of really wanting to play it anymore.

I'm sure whether it was intentional or not, some kid out there quit magic after being harassed over and over again with the word "n00b", thus a future pro-tourer may have been ended very shortly.

But another purpose of this article is to more or less invoke some sense of kindness into this game that I love so much.

There has always been what I called "geek hate", even since the time I began playing this game (which was at the 1st Releast of Portal).

The problem being, I had to teach myself how to play because no one wanted to take the time to teach me. Of course I was like 8 when I began to learn it, but now I'm teaching all the nieghborhood kids how the game works.

My point therein? I want to return the kindness I did not experience in the game when I was younger.

Love and Peace

personally, I think the term "newb" and "n00b" are two completely different things. Newb, to me, is somebody that is new to the game, and asking legitimate questions that they can't find answers for, while being fairly intelligent about it. n00bs, however, are those who tend to be fairly ignorant and spam boards endlessly with meaningless drivel. I vote, keep.

most of the time those people who use these terms are, themselves, inexperienced players at least to the degree of the people they are addressing. Use the lingo if you want, but I still think that people who use these terms are idiots more so than those who are inexperienced.

A message to thoise who speak these terms: There is no reason to be a prick to someone who is trying to learn. Do you think you are cooler than other people because you spend more time in nerdy chatrooms talking trash in an immature fashon? I think the "noobs" probably got a couple of cool points over you just for having better things to do than make fun of people for their lack of knowledge in a nerdy game such as magic.

You're post in a forum about magic politics. It doesnt get much nerdier than that.

EDT: In case you didnt catch my drift, I was trying to say STFU Newb. Grow a dick etc etc

I'm somewhat of a newb, but not so much a n00b. I've been playing for 6 months, and I've got quite a good grasp of the game and its rules. Still, every now and again, I'll ask a n00b question. It doesn't mean I'm a retard; I just had a n00b moment. If I ask a n00b question and someone says "Read the home page n00b!" I'll rightfully understand that what I asked was n00bish. I don't take offense to it, and I don't see why others do.
You say future Pro-Tour players might be turned off from Magic, because they were called n00b? I'm sure they've heard worse when people found out THEY PLAY MAGIC! I mean, honestly, I hang out with quite the prep squad, and they berate me endlessly about the fact that I play "such a nerdy game." Boo freakin' hoo! Have tougher skin, n00b.
Note: That's not to say I won't help someone out, but just the other day there was someone who just got on my nerves, asking stupid questions. There's a time and place for the words "newb" and "n00b." Sometimes it's just to be facetious/funny, and sometimes it's to point out, "You're getting on my damned nerves and asking stupid ass questions." Either way, used properly it's not a "bad" word.

i think that we should help the newer, younger players become better. magic league helps us become better players, and those who are noobs now will become better players with time.

Oh yeah, i forgot that it is encouraged to always be an assho1e while you're online. Way to clarify how we all should be acting zenth. Now that we've cleared up the etiquitte issue, i'm gonna go gaybash in a homosexual chatroom. That's the kind of stuff we cool internet people do. Sad
