I've been testing out 2 decks, one Esper control and the other Azorius control with about the same results. I like how streamlined Azorius can be, but I also like the options throwing black into it to make it Esper it can have. I was wondering what thoughts others had on this. I am posting both deck lists here as well, but I am not really looking for help per se on either, just throwing them out there to help the discussion out.

Esper Control

Lands
2 x Mutavault
4 x Godless Shrine
4 x Hallowed Fountain
4 x Temple of Deceit
4 x Temple of Silence
4 x Watery Grave
3 x Island
2 x Plains

Creatures
1 x AEtherling

Spells
3 x Ashiok, Nightmare Weaver
4 x Jace, Architect of Thought
2 x Elspeth, Sun's Champion
4 x Supreme Verdict
4 x Azorius Charm
2 x Render Silent
2 x Syncopate
4 x Sphinx's Revelation
3 x Hero's Downfall
4 x Thoughtseize

Sideboard
3 x Detention Sphere
3 x Fiendslayer Paladin
3 x Lifebane Zombie
3 x Negate
3 x Celestial Flare

Azorius Control

Lands
2 x Mutavault
4 x Hallowed Fountain
4 x Azorius Guildgate
8 x Plains
9 x Island

Creatures
1 x AEtherling[/c]

Spells
2 x Elspeth, Sun's Champion
4 x Jace, Architect of Thought
2 x Syncopate
4 x Supreme Verdict
4 x Sphinx's Revelation
4 x Azorius Charm
2 x Celestial Flare
2 x Divination
4 x Detention Sphere
2 x Last Breath
2 x Render Silent

Sideboard
2 x Negate
2 x Pithing Needle
2 x Glare of Heresy
3 x Fiendslayer Paladin
4 x Precinct Captain
2 x Jace, Memory Adept

Those are the decks and like I said, not really looking for help on ither, just starting a discussion as to what people think is the strongest deck (not between these two exactly, but just between Esper and Azorius control)

He's absolutely correct. Dissolve is finally a playable 3cc counter, and you should run 4.

Can you provide more in depth analysis on your choices for both lists? It seems multiple people are interested in why you made the choices you did and it also will help keep the post within forum guidelines so I won't need to move it to the casual forum.

I would say that everyone here needs to go back and read what I wrote, not just the decklists themselves, but somehow I feel I would just be wasting my time. This was for a discussion on the two deck types, and ONLY that. If it has to be moved, then fine. You are not hurting me one bit by doing so. By not reading my post fully though you are making yourselves look like idiots. Thank you for trying though.

And every single person who has posted so far has failed to read the entire op. Nothing left to say.

I read the entire OP. It's just not much of a discussion, and picking apart your atrocious build is more fun.

If you really have to know, UW is better against Aggro, Esper is better against other Control decks.

I was going to comment until i looked at the two lists, and you losing all credibility by stating you get the same results with both decks. The esper list is clearly only ever going to beat other control decks, whilst the uw list is more balanced and suited to the current meta more. There is no way you get identical result's with those two lists they are very different. And if you did you would have to a total idiot to be unable to work out you should go with the two colour deck, as its more consistent no point adding extra colours for the same result.

If you didn't want help with the decks you shouldn't have posted them.

To answer your question original question: I personally prefer american control. However, Esper is much more better suited to deal with other control decks, which I think is more important since post sideboard the deck deals with aggro pretty handily.

Elspeth and aetherling, its old school control with minimal number of win conditions possible, from a time yonder back before magic became two people throwing haymakers, until one could no longer get up. Ashiok can work as a win con also.

The wincon is obviously Mutavault. Why else would it be in a 3 color deck that has to hit double cc of all 3 of it's colors by turn 4?
