I have friends who live far away so I cannot play Magic with them in person, so I would like to try using a program to connect online and play.
What would you say is the best software for simple Player Vs. Player matches? I'm not looking to participate in tournaments online, just install it myself and have a friend do the same, build a deck and play.
As is evident by my asking and simply not weighing the options myself, I am not very tech savvy. |

| Magic Workstation is the standard program for online Magic play. It is by far and away the most well-developed program. It takes a little effort to install but there is a detailed guide for doing so. |

I have see that it is the most popular, but I know it's used because from what I read it's difficult to cheat with it. Cheating is not a concern for me since I'll just be playing for fun, not competitively.
Though since it's the most used, then I suppose that makes the one with the most people to help me if I have problems downloading it.
Thank you for your recommendation. |

| It also has the most complete feature set. The only major feature it's lacking is multiplayer. |

I am a huge supporter of Cockatrice for overall design (such as card pictures) and game play (separate area for the stack).
Magic Workstation is good too. |

Multiplayer as in more than two people. It wouldn't be the #1 choice for online play if it only supported 1 player.

Try this link. You can find full-frame images in a small link near the bottom, if you want more than just the card art. |

If you aren't playing tournaments use Cockatrice (last I saw it had all sets up to RTR).
The reason is, assuming your friends are trustworthy, the overall application runs better than MWS. Less connection errors, 2HG play, etc.
MWS is the most popular on here solely because it meets all the requirements for the Floor Rules concerning applications used, and apparently the possibility for software cheating is non-existent. I haven't looked at Cockatrice in depth, but a judge has said it was missing log files and isn't applicable for tournament use.
The other option is Octgn which apparently supports ALL multiplayer variants, but again isn't applicable for tournament play. |
