Since GP ATL is running grinders in every format I was going to try to play in the Modern and Extended ones.

For Extended I'm thinking about running BW tokens but most of the lists from modern run Ajani Goldmane, just wondering if Sorin is actually better?

The Extended Trial won't fill. It is(sadly) a dead format.

I would go with Sorin though, his boost is permanent and he can make his own tokens to protect him.

There is a chance since they still run TCG Qualifers in the extended format.

Why don't you post the list where the walker should be fitted into?

I am not really sure for my choice (Ajani) since I am unfamiliar with the format but I remember the plus one toughness and vigilance being relevant back when B/W tokens was still top tier in standard.

In modern BW tokens profits a great deal from redundancy and can life with no planeswalker at all.
In ALA->ISD extended i dunno, you got this one of each feeling.
You got Inquision no Thoughtseize
You got Gather but no raise
You got Lingering Souls but no Procession
Feels like half a deck.

The deck from last season ran 4 inquisition over 4 Thoughtseize
It ran Raise but no Gather, raise not being legal gets replaced by gather.
It ran both Lingering Souls and Procession, losing Procession gets replaced by Midnight Haunting(easier on the mana base - 1 token)

From modern it loses only Procession and lands.
