Ive been testing this deck in a few tourneys lately and on open MwsGames. The decks basic purpose is to deck you out, with a potential for lethal damage for an alt win. In the 4 matches ive played on Open Mws im 2-2. The 2 loses were too getting my opponent down to 4 cards and 3 cards respectfully and not being able to finish before he swong for lethal. Here is my deck list as it currently stands, ANY deck advice ( no trolls ) will be appreciated. Thanks

Lands
2 [ISD] Nephalia Drownyard
10 [ISD] Island (2)
7 [ISD] Swamp (3)
4 [M12] Drowned Catacomb

// Creatures
4 [ISD] Delver of Secrets
4 [SOM] Molten-Tail Masticore
3 [ISD] Snapcaster Mage

// Spells

3 [M12] Jace, Memory Adept
4 [M12] Ponder
2 [NPH] Dismember
3 [NPH] Surgical Extraction
3 [NPH] Despise
4 [ISD] Dream Twist
4 [M12] Mana Leak

// Sideboard

Darkslick shores is a good land!

I don't know if the mill strategy can work, but either go full out for it, or don't try it at all is my idea. So I'd ditch the masticore and the delver.

I try to build a Mill deck on the last standard and just becom to the idea that the mechanic is too weak. As usual you start aproaching to a competitive deck when you build an UX control deck (X=Black, White...), replacing solid creatures by milling-cards.... but obv you win just by control the f*** game, then mill... when really you can just win early with anyone creature.

In this new standard the mill mechanic lost a lot of fuel. Both Archive Trap and Hedron Crab are better mill cards than any other on the Inn block. So... ¿if the deck didin't function on the old T2? ¿how frak can we make it work without that two?

In adition, one of the most powerfull mechanics of the last standard: Caw Blade, have been improved with Innistrad, thanks to those quick and solid new creatures plus auto-mill/revival mechanic. So instead of Caw Blade its possible that we just found new XXX Blade decks everywhere.

My Advice: dont try so hard.

And this was one of the few Mill decks i can see on tournaments. Take a look.

Mill would have been incredibly good in the old standard except that too many people were playing Emrakul. So saying that it lost more than it gained is not a reasonable argument.

I said I would try to build a better version, and here's what I've come up with:

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
2 [ISD] Nephalia Drownyard
4 [M12] Drowned Catacomb
4 [SOM] Darkslick Shores
7 [MBS] Island (2)
7 [SOM] Swamp (2)

// Creatures
3 [M12] Jace's Archivist

// Spells
1 [MBS] Blue Sun's Zenith
2 [M12] Ponder
2 [MBS] Black Sun's Zenith
2 [NPH] Surgical Extraction
3 [M12] Doom Blade
3 [M12] Jace, Memory Adept
3 [NPH] Despise
3 [M12] Visions of Beyond
3 [ISD] Think Twice
4 [M12] Mana Leak
4 [M12] Jace's Erasure
4 [ISD] Dream Twist

// Sideboard
SB: 3 [SOM] Nihil Spellbomb
SB: 2 [SOM] Turn Aside
SB: 2 [SOM] Wurmcoil Engine
SB: 3 [NPH] Mental Misstep
SB: 2 [MBS] Go for the Throat
SB: 2 [MBS] Black Sun's Zenith
SB: 1 [NPH] Surgical Extraction

I've played 10 matches on MWSPlay, and got 6 people to concede at the end of G1 when I was about to mill them out, and lost 2 matches (Steel and RDW, even with all 4 BSZ) and won 2 matches vs UWB Control and some GW Sword deck.

Any game where I get turn 2 Erasure, turn 3 Archivist is typically a win, unless they have the removal immediately. Visions of Beyond is amazing after turn 6-7, and can be really good vs Temp Steel or other aggro, if you can get them to over-commit, land BSZ, and hold the board.

Other potential ways to build a Mill deck in standard would involve going Grindclock / Sphere of the Suns / Shriekhorn / Jace / proliferate, but without Everflowing Chalice to mana ramp with proliferate, I don't see it as a viable option.

I could see this type of build with mill as a mana sink / alternate win condition:

// Lands
3 [ISD] Nephalia Drownyard
4 [SOM] Darkslick Shores
4 [M12] Drowned Catacomb
6 [SOM] Swamp (2)
8 [MBS] Island (2)

// Creatures
1 [M12] Grave Titan
1 [SOM] Wurmcoil Engine

// Spells
1 [MBS] Go for the Throat
2 [NPH] Surgical Extraction
2 [M12] Doom Blade
2 [ISD] Liliana of the Veil
2 [MBS] Black Sun's Zenith
3 [ISD] Curse of the Bloody Tome
3 [ISD] Think Twice
3 [NPH] Despise
3 [M12] Visions of Beyond
4 [M12] Jace, Memory Adept
4 [ISD] Dissipate
4 [M12] Mana Leak

// Sideboard
SB: 2 [ISD] Witchbane Orb
SB: 3 [NPH] Mental Misstep
SB: 3 [SOM] Nihil Spellbomb
SB: 1 [SOM] Wurmcoil Engine
SB: 2 [MBS] Go for the Throat
SB: 1 [NPH] Surgical Extraction
SB: 1 [M12] Doom Blade
SB: 2 [MBS] Black Sun's Zenith

It obviously has a higher focus on discard / board control / landing a fatty, with the mana sink of the Drownyard as a way to help power up your Visions, and alternately win with Jace milling out your opponent.

Of course, neither of these decks are THAT good. I'm just going with Hawk's theme, and trying to improve.

but leyline of the void gives you advantage over emerakul especially with the control aspect of black and as far as mill being bad in old t2 i beg to differ 2009 states i placed 10th in florida running blue white mill

but that aside from old t2 since your running black you NEED to either main deck leyline or sideboard it one way or the other or you lose to emrakul everytime
