Steel Web Enforcer 2GG
Creature - Spider (Uncommon)
Reach
~ enters the battlefield with 2 +1/+1 counters on it.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, that creature has reach.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from ~: Put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, that creature can't attack or block, and it's activated abilities can't be activated.
A wisp of gossamer, about the size and substance of a spider's web.

Armour of Prosperity 1W
Enchantment - Aura (Uncommon)
Enchant creature
When Armour of Prosperity enters the battlefield, draw a card.
Whenever enchanted creature attacks or blocks, you gain life equal to the number of cards in your hand.
"Part of the battle is knowing when to hold back and when to go all out. Finding the balance means victory." Elspeth, Knight-Errant
The point of this card's playability is it's versatility. It can be used on a big blocker or to neutralize an opponent's creature. Would probably a decent standard playable sideboard card and a brick house in limited. Nice challenge created here. I appreciate a good niche card. |

Interesting card. One blue mana to destroy target permanent if another permanent of the same name is in play. |
yeah, it costs 2W but has a narrower application than oblivion ring. i was just dreaming of a card that hits both splinter twin, valakut, and sometimes even caw and steel. the current t2 has a hard-on for duplication. (see Doubling Chant) |
Just noticed the U was uncommon and not casting cost. It should read "Enchanted permanent and each permanent with the same name as it is legendary." |

Not a bad card but definitely not an uncommon. The second ability is usually exclusively for rares. And it would be way too good in limited to be an uncommon. |

i thought the same, then i concluded that it would be a good uncommon, specifically for the reason that you either need to give it haster or buff it to make it a viable damage dealer.
however with that in mind, his second ability is the same as a rare equipment that also requires a second card to be good...
how about this enchantment.

The first post and already a very good submission. You did everything I asked for: a good niche card, that won't break limited and yet should see play in standard, since a card and a turn to kill any 2 creatures is about as good as your average wrath of god.
You could've pushed a little harder and made it "up to two creatures" and "up to two players" so that I don't have to fireball myself in order to kill my opponents. This would've made it stellar. Also, fireballs with multiple targets are not a new animal in magic, but this one was creatively executed.
Nice flavor and perfectly fit the niche bill. Fine card and strong contestant!

Not really innovative concept-wise or design-wise. Certainly playable in some kind of control deck our birthing pod deck, at the same level of the "Scatterbolt" at this criteria, I'll give you that. Unfortunately, the flavor here is "hah, random spider". Finally, it should've coasted 3GB (and probably could even kill also artifacts and lands at that coast) or 3GW and removed permanents. "Destroy target creature" in green is just a outright violation of the color pie.

I guess I understand the feeling here, although it is not really intuitive. Certainly innovative, and borderline playable (either for value in control/rock/pod deck or in some form of dirty combo). Don't love the flavor and doesn't really fit the niche, though, even if it does feel defensive.

Thanks. And good subscription, to. I like what you are trying to do. Good flavor and definitely fits the bill on what I've asked. But unfortunately you should probably pushed more on it's playability. As it is it's not going to make the cut in standard, because few decks would want this effect (why not just play a creature with protection?) or be willing to be two-for-owned by removal played in response to this.

I like where you're going and have always asked why this wasn't made before. Unfortunately, if fireball isn't good enough, a fireball that coasts 4 life instead of "R" certainly won't be either. Probably you should've coasted it at <R/2life>X, and even then, I don't think it would've mattered much. Probably the only way of making it standard-worth woudl've been to with something like:
Random Phyrexian Fireball

Playable... anytime fliers are expected. Would've been good last year, with all the Baneslayers, though by no means "evergreen playable". I also like how you've putted together that "green" does not necessarily means "monogreen". Also good flavor-wise and almost fit limited bill (blocking fliers all day long). A slightly larger body would've solved both problems. At 2/5, I'd grade this a 9.5. Still one of the better submissions, though.

Not horrible. Blocks fliers of its coast category and can attack later. Good for limited, but probably wouldn't make the cut for standard. The reason is that cards in standard are very specialized at their roles and this can't neither attack well (duo to 1 toughness) nor defend well (because it would just be bolted for the decks that care about early beats and ignored by the rest. Perhaps in a deck with tons of removal it could be good, but I wouldn't bet. Also the design ain't that innovative.

Almost there. Reasonable in constructed, you were two inches of hitting the nail of playability. With a diferent +2/+2 and vigilance clause (one that made a little more sense flavorwise), it would've been just perfect. Some grammar errors, but luckily this is not part of the criteria. I love this card! It is on the absolutely correct playability level (recompensing you for being a dedicated red deck, and still playable somewhere else if you really need a niche card) and does not brake limited, which I largely appreciate. The possibility of dividing the damage is just awesome and contributes a lot for the card. As the judge of the last round said: "less IS more". It's just you. And I kinda like what you got going on here (despite the bad Magic wording). It's to expensive though (since multiples could just sit there on your hand doing nothing and this is usualy the death of constructed playability). At "W" would've been fine, a high-risk, high-reward card that most people wouldn't play anyway. At "2W" with "draw a card when @ comes into play" would've been amazing (and a card I'd probably side in against valakut). Also, the card feels kinda blue to me.

Not really playable outside of limited, but it does fit the limited bills pretty well. The flavor text is good in spirit, but it's poorly written (not as in grammar, but in colocation and this IS a criteria, since it contributes to the flavor of the card). It was doing well until I read the last line of rules text. It raises many issues and it's just outside of Magic's proper texting. How is a +1/+1 counter abble to do that? Does it create an emblem? Is it valid for as long as the Steel Web Enforcer is into play (hint: if it does, it's not good in constructed). If you had not stambled on that final ability this would've been a serious contender.

Enchant creature
When Armour of Prosperity enters the battlefield, draw a card.
Whenever enchanted creature attacks or blocks, you gain life equal to the number of cards in your hand.

Yes, it would've been a brick house in limited. But in constructed it would be more like a "meh" sideboard card against monored. Timely Reinforcements, Kor Firewalker and even Sword of War and Peace would still be better, since it gives no protection to the creature that would just be burned out.

It secretes a substance that, working with its pheromones, can turn from sticky web to a particular healing substance. We need to study in depth this species.

2/4 because as 2/3 it would be simply worse than a vampire nighthawk.. |
Very slightly underpowered for constructed (requiring 2 colors it probably should have had some other ability, like Deathtoch, or, better yet, been a 3/4 and thus, VERY good but still not broken). Not terrible, though.

It's... ok, I guess? First thing I noticed: it's rare. Second thing: lacks flavor. Then I proceeded to realise that no deck wants this card. It's to slow for an aggro deck (would never deal the damage needed to trigger its ability, even as a 1/6) and to weak for a control deck (since creatures in control decks must be either finishers or be nuts in terms of power, even when they have good abilities. Had this been the "white enchantment", it would've been better.

I guess this is playable in that neat infect deck... oh, wait there isn't one and there never will be.

1: enchant target creature with ~ as long as it is already enchanted, do this ability at any time you may cast a sorcery |
Even if the ability could be used as instant, this would still be a $0.5 rare. Not playable outside of limited and not even great there.
Innovation: 1, Playability: 0.5, Flavor: 0 (it doesn't even have a name, let alone flavor!), Niche/Color: 0.5 (Its not defensive if you're already dead and this has no reason to have "B" on it's coast).

ULTIMATE CREATE A CARD 62 SHOWDOWN:
Yajiko, AxiomBlurr and xJudicatorx are invited to create another card to seatle who can judge round 63! But this time, things will be harder...
YAJIKO:
- Design an Aura that is somehow flavor-related to a Spider.
- It must be green and white.
- It must be rare or mythic rare.
- It must be a standard staple (either playable in multiple standard decks or a built-around me card that could fuel an entire archetype).
- It must not break standard.
AXIOMBLURR:
- Design a defensive sorcery or instant spell.
- It must be red and white.
-It must be rare or mythic rare.
- It must be a standard staple (either playable in multiple standard decks or a built-around me card that could fuel an entire archetype).
- It must not break standard.
XJUDICATORX:
- Design a creature capable of dealing non-combat damage.
- It must be red and green.
- It must be rare or mythic rare.
- It must be a standard staple (either playable in multiple standard decks or a built-around me card that could fuel an entire archetype).
- It must not break standard.
I'll judge this ultimate showdown tomorrow, so that people (including myself) won't wait longer for a new round. If only one or two of you submit a card... oh, well, then they probably would be a better/faster judge for Create a Card anyway. ^^ |
