just for clarification do you choose the color you want protection from before or after the spell resolves? the way i read it you do it as the spell is cast but i have been wrong before.

And you have it wrong this time also.

You choose the color for Brave the Elements when it resolves, not as you cast it.

As a rule of thumb, spells that lets you name things are done on resolution (I'm looking at you, Memoricide). If they want it named as you cast it, they should have the line "As you cast this spell..."
