i've been playing magic for a pretty long time, and being female, i've definitely had my fair share of interactions with fellow players. (who happen to be mostly males, obv) my local scene (st.louis) is full of nice, casual yet competitive players who for the most part just enjoy playing the game itself. i suppose this fact made me that much more surprised when i decided to start taking a break from the cardboard and play online only to find that roughly 90% of online players are just ignorant elitests with some kind of smug undeserved sense of accomplishment. i've experienced it all: people disconnecting just because i'm testing a non-tier deck that they may perceive as "noobish" when in reality, i was crushing them. i've also had the people who seem to have "lol noob" on some sort of macro, and just people who have little to no interest in enjoying playing a game that we both obviously enjoy. magic is, and has always been, a game meant to bring friends together to have a good time. i suppose adding the anonymity of a computer screen just throws that all out the window and it becomes a contest of who can whine about bad/good draws more and achieving some sort of e-hard on from thinking they made someone feel like a scrub. this is just ridiculous, people. it's a game. let's just have fun, make some new buddies, and play the game we love.

just a rant, feel free to flame away

Its sadly generally just true of the internet not just magic. Put people infront of a keyboard and they lose all respect for fellow humans.

1. The people in St. Louis you play with are not good.

2. The people online tend to be the most competitive and most serious players - not to say that they are all exactly top tier, but they think they are/wish they were.

3. The way people behave on the internet is the way they really are. Without the threat of being punched in the face, people show their true colors.

4. Not everyone playing this game IRL is nice, in fact, the majority aren't. This deals with the psychology of Magic players. Most are males with an above average IQ. Many are overweight, ugly, and socially inept. These people are emotionally shattered and try to compensate for their failings by winning at games. Things you often see in the IRL magic community:

-cheating, any way they can
-ripping off people in trades, every time they can
-talking trash about opponents
-rules lawyers
-judge whining
-being a douche in general

Some people relish in their douchebaggery. Peter Szigeti (fat piece of human feces that eventually got banned from the DCI) and Calosso Fleuntes (or, Colossal Faggot as he is known locally) come to mind as just two examples. Mike Long and David Williams going a little further back are also good examples.

These people make it to the pro tour and people like you don't. What does that say about the state of the game and the community in general?

Nice guys finish last and your interest in the game ($$$) subsidizes their winnings.

god what a fucking retarded post by a noob player. My e-peen is much bigger than yours, and thats why I get to call a noob like you a noob. I fucking tear it up in the ML minis and and my ML ratings speak for themselves. See bitch, when you're worried about makin the PT circuit rather than cooking dinner and childbearing, it adds some stress, and thats why I rip new assholes for all the scrubs who try to step to my mad skillz. If i wasnt constantly being ruined by the MWS shuffler, damn bitch I'd be the king of magic-league. I am the best player here ezpz, and probably the best deckbuilder after jacois. Shit bitch, I'm so fly that planes get jealous.

Peace bitch, by the way you're welcome for my gracing this thread with my epic wisdom.

There is some truth to what SJM said, but what it really boils down to is competitive gamers are mostly douchebags on the internet. I've been in my share of competitive e-sports and even when you're on a sponsored team nothing changes, everyone is still a douche that isn't in your circle, and most people are douches back to them.

To be fair some people say those same comments jokingly but almost always they are taken literally. As long as you're relaxed, and not taking the game as seriously as those clowns you'll still have fun.

There have been guns pulled at Counter Strike tournaments. I know there have been plenty of fights at Magic Grand Prix tourneys over the years. Plenty of tires have been slashed as well. Players banned from the DCI for threats and fighting.

Just a matter of time until a gun gets pulled. All it takes is the right combination of a douchebag that has never been called out for his bull shit and punched in the face, and an angry gun toting psycho that just lost his job/wife to be paired in a tourney.

Easy answer: MtG just needs more women... Easy as that... But women donīt want to play in such a sick community, the reasons are understandeable so itīs a kind of vicious circle...

The worst part of this is that most people know this as the thread demonstrates but still conform to it. All you can really do it not become part of the problem yourself and that is alot harder than it sounds.

Does this post have anything to do with you and me? Cause I thought we hit off well and that I might have a slim chance of you coming to new york and you possible considering to touch my privates (or vice versa). Laughing JK

But seriously omgzSkye is kind of cute, Don't FUCK WITH HER! Cause if she stops coming here my chances of hooking up with a decent looking girl that plays mtg will go from .001% to .0001%

SJM! you made me laugh

EDIT: You too coolcreep
