What's the point of mana burn? Is there a way to benefit from tapping a mana source you won't use?

Mana burn no longer exists in magic. so you dont have to worry about it.

There were some uses for manaburn and of course people sometimes forgot they had mana in pool which resulted in life loss so it couldve made the difference. Personally I think it shouldve been left in.

Manaburn hardly mattered but I think it's good that its gone.
It allows for more interesting card designs where getting free mana doesnt have the added disadvantage of being a problem, such as mana drain like spells. Also cards that depend on the other players life total get more interesting such as hidetsugu's second rite.

It's a rule change that caters to the casual magic player environment.

not everyone is smart enough to intentionally mana burn themselves. that is something that requires judgment.

I used to play Scepter Chant in Legacy for a while and I'll miss responding to Dark Ritual with Orim's Chant and turn a first turn Duress/Hymn or Specter into a Lightning Bolt yourself in the face.

I won't miss losing because of mana burn because of excess mana from Tron lands in tight games. Yes, it does happen. Especially when you're trying to Remand/Mana Leak.

Tron still sucks because while you setup you are open to beatdown/disruption/discard and even when you finally get your tron goin you dump it on one spell which gets countered.

~

This was a decision made to cater to the casual player base stop trying to deny it

Ok, I think we drifting from rules discussions far enough. Go have this discussion in a more appropriate forum please.
