Updated Nov 3rd

// Deck file for Magic Workstation (http://www.magicworkstation.com)

// Lands
4 [M10] Drowned Catacomb
6 [M10] Island (1)
6 [M10] Swamp (1)
4 [M10] Gargoyle Castle

// Creatures
4 [CFX] Sedraxis Alchemist
4 [ZEN] Gatekeeper of Malakir
3 [ALA] Fleshbag Marauder
2 [ZEN] Sphinx of Jwar Isle

// Spells
4 [ZEN] Spell Pierce
4 [M10] Duress
3 [M10] Jace Beleren
3 [ARB] Soul Manipulation
4 [ALA] Agony Warp
4 [ZEN] Into the Roil
3 [ALA] Courier's Capsule
2 [ARB] Mistvein Borderpost

// Sideboard
SB: 4 [M10] Essence Scatter
SB: 4 [M10] Negate
SB: 3 [M10] Doom Blade
SB: 4 [ALA] Infest

More removal, no Draggar though, should hold out much more consistently to get out sphinxes, they arent super strong but they get the job done, especially being untargetable

Edit: Needs more black, for a moment imagine trading a castle for a borderpost, gotta have em for fixing and alchemists.

Yea stags are an issue, I think remnant is commin out because he doesnt find much other than counters/artifacts.

I always thought Rite of replication SB would be an answer (albeit a bad answer) to stags

Maybe pull remant FOR Gatekeeper?

My first impression was remant out for duress

Also, for planeswalkers i should sb vampire hexmage, =/= tokens

No way dude, spell pierce is fucking amazing! Anyone who doesn't like it either hasn't played with it or detests blue. It's REALLY nice.

spell pierce is a good answer early game, they save their spells for when they think your tapped out and bam, they get it for one mana.

I loves it.

Playtesting that BR deck i posted atm, this deck is still on my mind

You have no instant creature removal. No mass removal.

Spell Pierce, Duress, Essence Scatter and Countersquall are all very narrow in usage. You need the right one at the right time. Those are all better as sideboard cards.

Viscera Dragger is not a good card. Neither is Sedraxis Alchemist.

I don't see you kick Gatekeeper while they have only one creature on the board very often. Too many Islands for that.

Borderposts are terrible. Crumbling Necropolis or Arcane Sanctum are both much better.

So what can you do now that I have "removed" 90% of your deck?
1. Add Agony Warp or Doom Blade
2. Add more Sphinx of Jwar Isle and Sphinx of Lost Truths
3. Add 2 more lands (to 25) and tilt the deck and mana more towards black
4. Choose whether you want anti-creature or anti-control more maindeck. Both at once is impossible with the counterspells available.
5. In short - increase the card power of the deck.
4.

Rite of Replication targets, and it's a blue spell, so a Stag would laugh at it.

Clone, however, would work in that way. Though as you said, poor man's counter indeed.

merfolk looter, child of night, vampire hexmage WITH agony warp

you need early [useful]bodies to bolster the chance for 2-for-1's

duress+spell pierce+countersquall seems too many

Mindbreak trap counters stagg, and deals with cascade. I know it's a 4 mana counter to a 3 mana card, but it's better than nothing, and it's a good way to deal with BBE. also, when someone DOES bituminous into BBE into something else, it is free. I know it isn't ideal, especially for this deck. But I think it could find a place in the sideboard.

Also, I agree with the border posts being a bad idea. If you are really having trouble with mana base consistency you could always throw in a few refuges (though they are probably the worst card I've ever seen).

-4 countersquall +4 soul manipulation?

3 anti spells vs 1 anti creature doesnt make sense, and with souls I can bump marauder back up to 4 (maybe)
