Damage and loss of life are different things, but damage does cause loss of life. So something like circle of protection wouldn't stop a card that says lose 1 life, etc.

Damage is a form of life loss.
Intervention Pact stops damage, not life loss.

Damage is not a form of life loss. Damage causes loss of life. Damage and loss of life are two different things.
