I'm always looking for ways to abuse Isochron Scepter (my heart-felt thanks to Wizards for giving us Silence), and today I came across a card I'd never heard of before, Angel's Grace, and thought of this rough draft. Thoughts?

4 Isochron Scepter
2 Chrome Mox
4 Silence
4 Counterspell
4 Angel's Grace
4 Gigadrowse
4 Telling Time
4 Ponder
2 Peer Through Depths
4 Exalted Angel

And then either 24 land, mostly Islands and some UW providers (cant research their names yet while at work), or 22 land and 2 Meddling Mage or 2 more Chrome Mox.

The ideas are pretty obvious, I guess..

Lots of nasty instants, hoping to stick them on scepters. Counterspells to protect the scepters (maybe 2 mana leaks or remands somewhere as well?). Card draw to hit the scepters and instants. And then 4 relatively cheap flying angels to close the sale.

Could this work as a decent control deck? Luckily I've been researching storm decks, which gave me the ideas to add in those blue card draw spells to hit the combo cards.. then figured when I saw the Angel's Grace that the same idea could work for finding the scepters.

Edits to and opinions on this list are welcome. It was pretty much the 1st thing I thought of, so if there is some potential here, feel free to suggest improvements. -2 Gigadrowse +2 Remand? More Moxen for more acceleration? Take out Peer Through Depths for Meddling Mages? Add Thirst for Knowledge to the card draw-ers? Etc.

Also if anyone has land suggestions off the tops of their heads, go for it. But if not no worries, I'll search em up after work if this post doesn't get crushed with criticism Smile

Lemme know. This, at 1st glance at least, looks like it'd be a bitch to play against.

As far as I know, it's legal for extended, but "as far as I know" is pretty limiting in my case. The goal is extended, but if something here isn't legal, it's be good to know.

Counterspell = Illegal for Extended

Exalted Angel = Illegal for Extended after the upcoming rotation.

Ahh, OK. I changed the list a little bit, too. Though I didn't know about counterspell. Exalted replaced with Platinum

4 Isochron Scepter
4 Chrome Mox
4 Telling Time
4 Ponder
4 Compulsive Research
4 Counterspell (what instead since illegal? Remand? Leak? The idea is to protect the platinum angel and scepters)
2 Platinum Angel
2 Mulldrifter
2 Priveleged Position
2 Silence
2 Angel's Grace
4 Gigadrowse

4 Hallowed Fountain
4 Azorius Chancery
4 Reflecting Pool
9 Island
1 Tolaria just because I have one lol

The idea is to try to be the "ultimate control deck." I'm not saying it achieves this, but that was just what I was trying to "ponder," so to speak. With the right board, it can really achieve this goal. The only problem is if the opponent can rush in for a fast beatdown before it gets its cards. The board can develop pretty damn fast in this deck thanks to the card draw and nasty control combos, but if it doesnt get the right cards, it can be a sitting duck to a few undefended creatures taking a swing each turn.

Any thoughts? It feels like the idea is strong, just not sure if the optimal cards and/or number of cards was chosen. A god hand feels just about broken in this deck. Just have to consider the game plan when the scepters don't show up, etc. Or is it common practice in a scepter deck to mulligan till you have one to start? <shrug>

Thanks!
