|
|
So me and a few of my playtest group members have been brewing ideas for next Extended season, and we're thinking of giving Dragonstorm a try for testing. Right now it scoops to Hypergenesis, but with the format probably slowing a little due to fetches rotating and other things, it may be viable. Here is our list so far, very similar to the U/R version that won worlds a few years back. Suggestions/comments appreciated.
Lands - 22
4 - Steam Vents
4 - Shivan Reef
4 - Mountain
8 - Island
1 - Dreadship Reef
1 - Calciform Pools
Creatures - 6
4 - Bogardan Hellkite
1 - Hellkite Overlord
1 - Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund
Spells - 32
4 - Lotus Bloom
4 - Seething Song
4 - Rite of Flame
4 - Desperate Ritual
4 - Peer Through Depths
4 - Ponder
4 - Dragonstorm
4 - Remand
Sideboard:
4 - Pact of Negation
4 - Gigadrowse
3 - Shattering Spree
2 - Hurkyl's Recall
2 - Engineered Explosives
Is there anything in the format to help combat the Hypergenesis deck? That deck can obviously combo out faster than this one, but with some good sideboard tech, maybe we can improve that matchup slightly. Otherwise, we'll stick with it as-is and see what happens. The biggest back & forth decision we've had so far is the number of Pacts and Explosives. We think that there will be a lot of Faeries and that Elves won't be as big of a threat with some of their good cards rotating out. We had 3 & 3 at first, but we swapped to 4 & 2. Thoughts?

Remand is great against hypergenesis but you won't always have it ofcourse. You could sideboard something like trickbind or nix |

| You can go off turn 1 and they can also do that. The whole matchup is a matter of luck. The only things that are fast enough are Nix and Chalice for 0. |

Rule of Law and you are dead. SB needs some bounce like Echoing Truth.
For Hypergenesis and mirror Trickbind is best option.
In main, I'd put more storage lands, 4 is good number imo.
I played TEPS a lot, and I never lose to Hypergenesis... Trickbind/Stifle sb + Remand md are enough for that MU. |

| Those suggestions sound good, except for Stifle because it rotates out with Onslaught block. What should I cut in the board for Chalice and/or Trickbind? |

// Sideboard
SB: 3 [GP] Gigadrowse
SB: 3 [10E] Hurkyl's Recall
SB: 4 [DS] Echoing Truth
SB: 3 [FUT] Pact of Negation
SB: 2 [TSP] Trickbind
5 cards in your SB against Affinity is too much imo. I know it's hard MU, but there are many other good decks to beat. |

| I would suggest that adding a few Dragonstorms would make the deck a lot better. |

| OMG I don't know how I forgot to type Dragonstorm in the original post. Of course 4 of them are there. Sorry guys! Should've been Dragonstorm in place of Manamorphose, we were talking about that card while I was typing this up and I must have typed the wrong card name. |

Well playing Kokusho, the Evening Star over Bogardan Hellkite has many advantages. Life loss can't be prevented if I read the M10 rules correctly. Also you have black for Thoughtsieze. Another upside is not failing to combo for the win due to BFT.
I also think that the sideboard options are better in black. |

chalice of the void is good for the hypergenisus mu obvz
or you could be cool and add 4 kokusho in the board since chances are you'll have a good amount in hand and you can laugh when you win through stupid stuff like that
even though it wont work often |

| It's still better to play 4 Hellkites and a couple 2 other, because if your opponent somehow manages do survive the 20 dmg hit, you can always swing and win. |
