|
Back with another 4-3-2-2 I have stopped typing up drafts where I go esper, as I do not think anyone is benifiting from them there are more than enough esper drafts by me in the limited section if you feel you could do with someone else's perspective on drafting esper. I won.
Event #: 422919
Time: 6/16/2009 1:39:57 PM
Players:
Jrock76

------ ALA ------
Pack 1 pick 1:
--> Resounding Thunder
Call to Heel
Yoked Plowbeast
Dregscape Zombie
Kederekt Creeper
Savage Hunger
Windwright Mage
Executioner's Capsule
Branching Bolt
Outrider of Jhess
Fire-Field Ogre
Bull Cerodon
Rockcaster Platoon
Hellkite Overlord
Swamp
This is a very powerfull pack alot of good red, hellkite overlord is a bomb but is to expensive for my taste when you considered the large colour commitment as well, If I am going to play bull ceredon i am either naya or 5cc control so once again its quite a big commitment, e-capsule is not quite of the same power level of thunder or branching bolt, the bolt is a little more restrictive in terms of what i can play no grxis and the cycle ability of thunder and ability to go to the dome, outweighs the potential 2 for 1 with bolt in my opinion.
Pack 1 pick 2:
Waveskimmer Aven
Coma Veil
Soul's Grace
Skeletal Kathari
Outrider of Jhess
--> Carrion Thrash
Lightning Talons (FOIL)
Glaze Fiend
Gift of the Gargantuan
Sigiled Paladin
Demon's Herald
Sangrite Surge
Clarion Ultimatum
Mountain
This pack is very weak the stongest card is the paladin but it did not feel signifcantly stonger than the carrion thrash that I should take it.
Pack 1 pick 3:
Viscera Dragger
Resounding Roar
Viashino Skeleton
Etherium Sculptor
Dreg Reaver
Skeletal Kathari
Guardians of Akrasa
Goblin Deathraiders
Goblin Mountaineer
--> Blood Cultist
Angel's Herald
Prince of Thralls
Forest
The blood cultist is the best card in the pack and in my colours
Pack 1 pick 4:
Vectis Silencers
Welkin Guide
Bone Splinters
Deft Duelist
Savage Hunger
Hindering Light
Arcane Sanctum (FOIL)
Fatestitcher
--> Sprouting Thrinax

Skill Borrower
Swamp
Strong pack, sanctum, fate sticher, splinters and sprouting thrinax which is the pick for my deck
Pack 1 pick 5:
Naturalize
Angelsong
Blister Beetle
Obelisk of Jund
Cathartic Adept
Lightning Talons
Elvish Visionary
Sighted-Caste Sorcerer
--> Scavenger Drake
Dawnray Archer
Island
Both beetle and scavenger drake are excellent in jund, the drake i find is an absoulete house in this archtype so was my pick
Pack 1 pick 6:
Cathartic Adept
--> Lightning Talons
Forest (FOIL)
Onyx Goblet
Godtoucher
Guardians of Akrasa
Goblin Mountaineer
Shore Snapper

Not a great 6th pick
Pack 1 pick 7:
Jhessian Lookout
Dreg Reaver
--> Cylian Elf
Onyx Goblet
Spell Snip
Gustrider Exuberant
Sangrite Surge

2 drop in what appears to be my 3rd colour though its two early to be ceratin is not exciting

--> Etherium Sculptor

Deathgreeter
Godtoucher
Cathartic Adept
Protomatter Powder
Ooze Garden
Island
Pack 1 pick 9:
Yoked Plowbeast

Pestilent Kathari
Valeron Outlander
Asha's Favor
Rupture Spire
Vectis Agents
Molten Frame

I think the fireyfall just edges rupture spire, both are excellent.

Kranioceros
Faerie Mechanist
--> Absorb Vis
Vectis Agents
Quenchable Fire
Tukatongue Thallid
Lapse of Certainty
View from Above

Fixing plus end game reach great in this sort of deck
Pack 2 pick 7:
Mana Cylix
Zombie Outlander
Darklit Gargoyle
Rotting Rats
Asha's Favor
Grixis Illusionist
Knotvine Mystic

Swamp
The Zoa felt like the worst of the many esper options i do not want to see vs me in this pack
Pack 2 pick 8:
Unsummon
Rhox Meditant
Vedalken Outlander
Infectious Horror
Rhox Bodyguard
Wandering Goblins
--> Shambling Remains
Forest
Wow 8th pick remains thankyou very much!
Pack 2 pick 9:
Wretched Banquet
--> Canyon Minotaur
Traumatic Visions
Salvage Slasher

Winged Coatl
Deadshot Minotaur
Veinfire Borderpost
Offering to Asha
Godtracker of Jund
Igneous Pouncer
Esper Sojourners
Marisi's Twinclaws
Nulltread Gargantuan
Blitz Hellion
Swamp
This was a tough pack the twinclaws is prob the best card but green is a splash colour that i want to keep to a minimum, I could do with one more piece of fixing but I an going to gamble on getting that latter, so for me the pick is the cheap removal
Pack 3 pick 3:
Cerodon Yearling
Deny Reality
Glassdust Hulk
--> Jund Hackblade
Firewild Borderpost
Jund Sojourners
Captured Sunlight
Breath of Malfegor
Etherium Abomination
Thopter Foundry
Mage Slayer
Madrush Cyclops
Swamp
Alot of my two drops have green in there mana requirements which is not good, I do not have that much time to pick up fixing my deck is already powerfull enough to win a draft so making my mana base bad for power seems wrong, so the easily castable 2 drop it is.
Pack 3 pick 4:
Glassdust Hulk
Leonin Armorguard
Cerodon Yearling
Ethercaste Knight
Captured Sunlight
Magefire Wings
Trace of Abundance
--> Kathari Bomber
Skyclaw Thrash

Colossal Might
Arsenal Thresher
Demonic Dread
Offering to Asha
Marrow Chomper
Unbender Tine

Mountain
Late leech
Pack 3 pick 7:
Soul Manipulation
Stormcaller's Boon
Gorger Wurm
--> Trace of Abundance
Grizzled Leotau
Bant Sojourners
Demonspine Whip
Mind Funeral
Swamp
Erm Im not sure what happened here I looked at the gorger wurm which should have been the pick and somehow missed the fact I could play it and hated on the ramp come fixing
Pack 3 pick 8:
--> Jund Hackblade
Esper Sojourners
Ethercaste Knight
Godtracker of Jund
Breath of Malfegor
Dragon Appeasement
Vedalken Heretic
Swamp
Easy on the mana 2 drop
Pack 3 pick 9:
Leonin Armorguard
Architects of Will
Magefire Wings
Sigil of the Nayan Gods
--> Arsenal Thresher
Double Negative
Island
Pack 3 pick 10:
--> Monstrous Carabid
Offering to Asha
Godtracker of Jund
Esper Sojourners
Nulltread Gargantuan
Swamp
Pack 3 pick 11:
Cerodon Yearling
Breath of Malfegor
--> Thopter Foundry
Mage Slayer
Swamp
This is very very wrong
Pack 3 pick 12:
Cerodon Yearling
Morbid Bloom
--> Soulquake
Plains
Pack 3 pick 13:
Sigil of the Nayan Gods
--> Arsenal Thresher
Plains
Pack 3 pick 14:
--> Dragon Appeasement
Mountain
Pack 3 pick 15:
--> Swamp
The deck
1 molten frame
1 sangrite backlash
1 dredgescape zombie
2 jund hackblade
1 nactal otlander
1 putrid leech
1 resounding thunder
1 bloodcultist
1 kathari bomber
1 scarland thrinax
2 shambling remains
1 sprouting thrinax
1 canyon minotaur
1 madrush cyclops
1 bituminous blast
1 carrion thrash
1 monsterous carbid
1 skeletal kathari
1 fireyfall
1 absorb vis
1 rupture spire
6 swamp
7 mountain
3 forest
I got to say Im starting to like cascade a bit more, cascade into scavenger drake 3 times and it end up getting massive and winning me the game, other time I cascade into a remains needless to say I was expecting molten frame every time:P

Also P1P8 you picked an etherium sculptor over an ooze garden... don't get me wrong ooze garden is not a good card, but it has some really great synergies in your deck. Anything that gets sacced contributes to scavenger drake's power. Shambling remains can be sacced to make a 4/4 without the drawback, then unearthed for a 4 power swing and then sacced again for another 4/4. Same with the monstrous carabid (getting rid of the drawback).
Of course I would never play Ooze Garden over the thrinax you got... just sayin |

Yes it does have some good synergies would just like to point out that creatures that are unearthed do not add to scavenger drakes counter count, which your post kind of implied they did.
Its a card I've never seen work that great never tried but Gcoolboy kept trying to make it good back when modosharks was around on his vids and it just never was. |

It's funny, most of your reasons for avoiding Hellkite are the same as your reasons for picking Thunder over Branching Bolt (goes to the dome, wins games, costs 8, color commitment, etc).
I probably would have gone with the Executioner's Capsule, knowing I was passing some nice red, and taken a stab at esper.
Also, P2P5... I think Yoke of the Damned is the clear pick here. Removal trumps almost anything, for me, and especially trumps a 2cc creature with 2 color requirements, one of which is my splash. |

I really do not see how they are similar, thunder is not a colour commitment at all hellkite is so these are total opposites you can play it in any red deck not true of overlord, thunder costs 3 its just a bonus you can cycle it for 8. Goes to the dome and wins games are pretty much the same point, but i never even used that against hellkite it was a point for it my argument against was the colour requirement and high casting cost.
I think I underate yoked of the damned, its kind of situational removal, Ive seen it fall on a creature a few times and do nothing, or other times when they've cast that as there first removal spell i just beat them with that and never play another creature did this with a tower gargoyle and forced a 2 for 1. |
