Peasant is a format with only commons and maximum 5 uncommons.

I was thinking about a psychatog deck, but I just can't seem to find the right list. At this moment I have:
Psychatog
3 Psychatog (uncommon)
1 Wonder (uncommon)

Card Draw
4 Brainstorm
3 Gush
4 Accumulated Knowledge
1 Fact or Fiction (uncommon)

Counters/Removal
4 Counterspell
4 Daze
4 Mana Leak
4 Duress
4 Diabolic Edict

15 Islands
9 Swamps

Sideboard:
4x Hydroblast
4x Innocent Blood
4x Tormod's Crypt
3x Echoing Truth

Any tips?
Anything you guys would change?

Thanks in advance,
Magno-

Have you done any testing with it? A list of bad and good matchups would be helpful.

The list looks solid, but I'd need to play a few games before I gave any advice.

It's not that it's a bad list but I think Tog just doesn't have what it takes to beat established Peasant decks. I would take out AK and add Frantic Search though, because if you are planning on winning faster would be better and you don't have Intuition for AK.

There is a peasant tourney every month here, and I'm always late with making a deck. I want to play a new deck on every tournament (Or atleast notable changes) And all the decks I played against so far, are decks I own myself (Played by buddies though. Who don't play tournaments).

It are:
RGW Zoo'ish 7-0
Threshold 6-2
Empty the Warrens 4-1
Mono Black 2-5
Mono Blue Fae 6-1

I found out, that I have enough counter main or side that allow me to disrupt my opponent more then enough.

Almost all decks were able to defeat Pre- or post-board. Except for Mono Black.

I disliked the 4 duress main and I think that the deck needs more removal. Next to that Wonder wasn't really needed + Mental Note was really good in testing. So I came up with a new decklist:

Land: 3
3 Psychatog (uncommon)

Draw: 17
4 Brainstorm
4 Accumulated Knowledge
3 Mental Note
3 Gush
2 Fact or Fiction (uncommon)
1 Defy Gravity

Counter: 11
4 Counterspell
4 Force Spike
4 Mana Leak

Removal: 7
4 Diabolic Edict
3 Ghastly Demise

Land: 21
2 Dimir Aquaduct
4 Terramorphic Expanse
5 Swamp
10 Island

Sideboard:
4x Mesmeric Fiend
3x Hydroblast
3x Echoing Truth
3x Duress
2x Tormod's Crypt

FoF is just a great card in Peasant. Adding a 2nd one, was probably the best thing I could have done so far.
Accumulated Knowledge is great. Allowing you to draw into a lot of cards.

I tested the Force Spike instead of the Dazes and I actually liked it. You don't often tap out with this deck. Only turn 1 if you come out with an expanse, then the daze would be better. But it is something I still need to test a lot.

Frantic Search is banned in our metagame. Because the card is just to good. (Just like UN-sets are banned here)

So this is my new decklist, any new tips to it?

Thx in advance,
Magno-

edit:
I haven't played vs any deck that plays Guardian of the Guildpact and I wonder if the card kills my deck. I will test this coming days. If so, then I will probably add Agony Warp to deal with it.

Just because you don't know them doesn't mean they aren't established.

Psychatog has always had a good place for me. I was very sucessful with the deck. If you wanted to run this deck, I would try something as the following:

3 Psychatog
4 Ophidian
4 Nightscape Familiar

3 Echoing Truth
4 Counterspell
2 Fact or Fiction
4 Duress
4 Diabolic Edict
3 Gush
4 Mana Leak
3 Merchant Scroll

14 Island
8 Swamp

Brainstorm and AK lose much of their power due to the lack of complementary cards. Intuition in AK's case and shuffle effects in Brainstorm's case.

You use Merchant Scroll to find the bombs like Gush and Fact or Fiction.

Im short on time so you explain the rest of the card choices to yourself Smile

Is this for vintage peasant, or standard, or extended, or what? I don't feel like looking up the card list to see. /lazy magic player

It's vintage pez.

About Brainstorm:
I use Mental Note and Terramorphic expanse, so enough reasons to use it. Next to that, mono black is a little populair here, so vs. discard the brainstorms are great as well (But your best cards on top of your library).

About AK:
You get enough of them in your grave. By either playing the card or via Mental Note. So I still like the card, although it misses intuition.

About Nightscape Familiar:
I like the card, but I wonder if removing removal or counter. You only play 4 removal and 8 counter. While my deck plays 12 counter and 7 removal. I wonder if I can find any spot for it. But I will try and test it.

Maindeck Echoing Truth:
I like it, but I don't think that the deck needs it in the main, b/c storm isn't really populair right now (A lot of hate last tourney). But I'm not totally sure.

About Merchant Scroll:
I like it, but it's a sorcery, while almost everything I play isn't. The same reason applies on the ophidian and duress. That's why I play duress and Fiend a sideboard.

Magno, with 2 Mono black control decks in the top last time, I do hope that you're prepared for it! Wink

Isn't 1 or 2 isochron scepters a good idea?

oh, and if you wish, we can playtest a little on mws. I'm online in the evenings this week. Just pm me on this forum if you want to!

Alvast tot vrijdag!

p.s; I'd test the mono red burn matchup if I were you. That one seems difficult.

hehe...

First of all:
I expect less mono black this time. And mono red isn't really populair. So that isn't really a deck I care off.

I'm still not sure if I'm going to play this deck. I do have other decks ready, but this is probably the last tournament before the 'end-tourney'. Thus meaning that I'm probably qualified for it. If that's true, then I will play this deck. If not, I'm playing a 'known' deck which I know that I can pilot to atleast 3-2 or possibly 4-1/5-0

Scepter seems cool, but FoF is cooler Smile
I've played scepter in a thresh-look a like in the past. But the card just doesn't seem to do 'it' in this format.

I'll PM you about it later on Smile

and... see you on friday Wink

So, the tournament is over (Was Yesterday) and I went 4-0-1 and won with 13 points.

This list that I played in the end was:
// Creatures
3 Psychatog

// Spells
4x Counterspell
4x Force Spike
3x Mana Leak
4x Accumulated Knowledge
4x Brainstorm
3x Mental Note
3x Gush
2x Fact or Fiction
1x Deep Analysis
4x Diabolic Edict
3x Ghastly Demise
1x Defy Gravity

// Lands
10x Island
5x Swamp
4x Terramorphic Expanse
2x Dimir Aqueduct

// Sideboard
4x Hydroblast
4x Mesmeric Fiend
4x Duress
3x Echoing Truth

Tweak the list a littlebit and you probably get a great list. I would suggest:
-4x Brainstorm (These were really bad...)
-2x Dimir Aquaduct (These were really bad...)
-1x Deep Analysis
-1x Ghastly Demise

+4x Duress (Sided them or the Mesmeric Fiends in every match)
+3x Opt
+1x Swamp

And the new sideboard should be:
4x Echoing Truth
4x Mesmeric Fiend
3x Tormod's Crypt
3x Hydroblast
1x Ghastly Demise
