About the statistics: The percentages for that card in the respective (top30/40) NOT the percentage the card is played in the format as a whole. The counts are taken from all tournaments (minis, trials, masters) played in the given time frame.

Remarks:
I'll leave the commentary to others. The most striking statistic is Tarmogoyf being the second most played card in constructed (behind Mountain). While this percentage is certainly remarkable, it has to be taken with a grain of salt since Snow-covered and regular lands are counted separately. Also noteworthy is that the top 3 Constructed sideboard cards (30.26% of the total) are graveyard hate.

tarmogoyf is more played than most of basic lands

rofl

by Daveslusher- on 2008-04-01 18:48 MDT

gogo tarmogoyf!

by CMA-Flippi on 2008-04-01 18:53 MDT

I believe that's because NLB splashes Goyf and doesnt need Forests. The same is true for Sligh and TarmoFolk decks. Even Affinity played Goyfs for a while. So Goyf is played by nonbasics more often than with simple Forests.

by dv8r on 2008-04-01 19:08 MDT

nice april fools joke ;)

by dv8r on 2008-04-01 19:09 MDT

you almost had me until I realised that lowland oaf isn't ANYWHERE on these statistics

by Kniver on 2008-04-01 19:15 MDT

I just realized, that you might be able to make an incredible RG deck if you make your way down the list and use the most commonly used RG standard cards, I mean tarmogoyf, mogg fanatic, mutavult, incinerate, treetop village, rift bolt
garruk, birds, so on so forth lol

by Ironicus on 2008-04-01 19:34 MDT

Lol this is so nice!

by aldaryn on 2008-04-01 19:54 MDT

It's probably unnecessary, but I wouldn't mind a more format-specific breakdown (Standard, Extended, etc.) Not that I'm trying to sound ungrateful...very neat to see

by Kniver on 2008-04-01 19:56 MDT

I actually did that, I made the deck and it actually works surprisingly well

by Kniver on 2008-04-01 20:10 MDT

Actually really well I've won a couple games with it,
lmao

by Kniver on 2008-04-01 20:13 MDT

I wish I could, but M-L doesn't keep decks that way. Tournaments are started in a category (Constructed, Eternal, Limited, Other). The only way to figure out by specific format is to search the description of the tourney. That's both unreliable and less precise.

nice april fools joke ;)

It's not a joke... but maybe I should have waited a day.

More Mountains than any other land (including Fetches and Duals), more Lightning Bolts than Stifles in Eternal ? Those Burn players are sure messing up the statistics...

by CMA-Flippi on 2008-04-02 05:57 MDT

There are more ppl playing 14 Mountains in a deck than 14 Forests.
Remember you can play Goyf/Gush with Tropical Islands etc :/.
Also, Lightning Bolt isn't lonely played in Burn. Boros and Tresh also uses it alot.

by sandoiche on 2008-04-02 10:23 MDT

also that bgr aggro deck

by SteveMan on 2008-04-02 12:43 MDT

Wtf how does Mountain lose to Force of Will in Eternal.

Ban Brainstorm!

by Eldariel on 2008-04-02 13:29 MDT

lol, poor Plains.

Also, we need Other-statistics, since most of the Other-tournaments are MYOS and then we'd know what's going on in that land :)

by Stucco on 2008-04-02 15:16 MDT

mountain > island?

My perception of magic has been completely shattered.

by Trotsky1 on 2008-04-02 15:31 MDT

no its island>mountain but too the noob its mountain>island which expalins this stat.

by Laplie on 2008-04-02 16:46 MDT

The reason that mountain is more played is probably cause of the monoRed decks are a lot more common than mono blue. Blue is usually mixed with other colors.

All of the top lands in eternal (except for mountain) produce blue or fetch blue. Added together they beat mountain about 4-1.

In constructed, you have to consider the snow covered lands.

Island + snow covered island > mountain + snow covered mountain

by david7all on 2008-04-03 21:07 MDT

i think i skewed up stats by playing 4 crusher 2 frenzy and 54 mountains : )

by Ironicus on 2008-04-06 17:43 MDT
