SteveGoode on 2012-08-03 04:20 CET the first place deck may be the worst deck ive ever seen by Tao on 2012-08-03 04:29 CET it is pretty clever actually. the only way it wins is if the opponent is mana screwed and both Thalia and Chancellor work well with that plan. by KriswithaK on 2012-08-03 04:29 CET I had to drop for the Final.... by el_focker on 2012-08-03 04:46 CET I wish this was Facebook so I could "like" Tao's comment. by massOass on 2012-08-03 05:11 CET I think that incorporating thalia and chancellor into an elves shell is just genius. putting a thalia in play on turn two followed by a turn three chancellor and revealing one or even two chancellors in the opening hand is devastating. Esp. when you copy the Chancellor with Metamorph and then your able to mana screw your opponent to lock them with slime and resto angel. The first place deck is only bad because you didn't come up with the concept yourself. by KriswithaK on 2012-08-03 05:16 CET I most likely had a good match-up vs the first place deck... I threw this deck together in the final hour before the trial, The Sideboard is completely wrong, and i still have some deck tuning to do... by el_focker on 2012-08-03 05:29 CET Its also bad because it is slow, clunky, situational, and has a bad delver matchup. Yes, it is capable of some occasional explosive starts but so is g/w elves (which plays more necessary accelerants and flexible high end cards). Quite frankly, i dont think gw elves is a very good deck either.. In magical christmasland, where you draw t1 elf t2 archdruid t3 acidic slime t4 chancellor and your opp doesnt have gut shot, mana leak, or dismember(or any removal for archdruid) its unstopable.
by Shagrath on 2012-08-03 09:30 CET Single elimination tournaments will almost never bring the best decks to the top. So i wouldn't be surprised that a 5 color goblin control Battle of wits deck wins a trial on magic-league in the future. by yesm on 2012-08-03 14:45 CET I always give props to a player that wins with an original deck. There is no doubt that the first place deck requires some luck and would never b consistent enough to take down a swiss tourney that cuts to a top 8. That being said its the perfect deck to take a chance on that u can get lucky (as in get the right matchups and see the chancelor in ur opening hand and t2 archdruids all day) in a 5 rd single elimination tournament. I always take more pride in winning with a deck I designed entirely rather than running a concept that has tourney winning decklists all over the net. Winning with a deck I designed from scratch just gets the competitive juices flowing up a notch. Congrats pterarch, it takes balls to run ur own deck over a pro's already proven deck. by bambamdoo on 2012-08-03 14:57 CET 5 color goblin control battle of the wits? challenge accepted. by SteveGoode on 2012-08-03 22:34 CET if he wanted to assure he could keep his opponent light on land he coulda just ran beast within, leonin arbiter some ghost quarters and another 1 mana accelerator, i mean im all for original decks but this one is pretty bad in my book by KriswithaK on 2012-08-04 00:27 CET no one is going to bash my deck??? lol
by coboney on 2012-08-04 02:16 CET UG Infect is awful. Completely reliant on drawing your 7 counterspells to protect your limited threats in a format with numerous fliers in it is an awful awful plan.
by pg8 on 2012-08-04 04:34 CET Infect needs more Wild Defiance. by kumagmd on 2012-08-04 13:28 CET Interesting to see that the "those decks are terrible" people aren't winners. by CChildress on 2012-08-04 15:54 CET I see like 4 tier 1 decks in this whole tournament, wtf is going on people, play tier 1 decks and you won't lose to garbage. by Duodax on 2012-08-04 16:05 CET infect needs 0 wild defiance card is bad by mtgsoldier on 2012-08-04 16:05 CET TL;DR by p_dadi24 on 2012-08-04 16:12 CET ChanceLOL
