I guess netdecking does pay off.

By the way...add Gather the Townsfolk next time.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-19 21:06 CET

Also, Frites looks really cool.

by DiCorreia on 2012-02-19 21:25 CET

I didnt think about the list. I'm not good for it. I just like get decks and try to play.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-19 21:39 CET

Well, congrats anyway.

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-19 23:29 CET

Irony is whining about netdecks and then saying Frites is cool...give Pro Tour a coverage a gander if you find a moment where your head isn't wedged between your butt cheeks, broseph.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-20 00:07 CET

Link?

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-20 02:28 CET

I refuse to link one of the most high-profile tournaments in existence. How can one insult another for netdecking when they haven't harnessed the net's power anyway? lol

by dAEdaL on 2012-02-20 02:42 CET

Anybody who complains about netdecking doesn't know enough about the game and is not worth any real player's time, in my opinion.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-20 10:38 CET

He copied the list card-for-card.

You guys are dumb.

by Tel on 2012-02-20 11:47 CET

There are quite a few players who don't have the time to build and test new decks even if they wanted to. Some people just enjoy playing the game and net decks are proven already so it's an obvious choice. Expect netdecking to happen, it's not a bad thing.

by DiCorreia on 2012-02-20 11:58 CET

GunsAndDope. I have life, thanks.

by Tao on 2012-02-20 12:06 CET

happy president's day, GunsAndDope

by Bezo on 2012-02-20 12:30 CET

Assuming you are playing the tournament to attempt to win, I can't think of a good reason to not use a netdeck (at least as a shell). Professional players put in more time than anybody else, and they are (generally speaking) more skilled and adept at creating decks. So, it follows that they will make the best decks most of the time, and that most amateur players will use those or at least a shell of those with their own variations to compete. Most people that say they are playing a home brew are just fooling themselves anyway. Usually, the deck they "created" is either already in existence and they just don't know about it or it's a piece of crap and that's why it does not yet exist.

Start at the assumption that everybody is using a netdeck and is on a relatively even playing field as far as deck quality goes. Then, just let the 15-20% variance of skill along with the 80% luck that is magic decide who wins the tournaments.

It's not complicated to figure this out.

by Terri on 2012-02-20 13:41 CET

may be Jordan is a poor country and they cant achieve the expensive netdecks. and thats why GunsAndDope is comlaining about netdecks

by straca3 on 2012-02-20 15:27 CET

lol, Gather is absolutely terrible in Humans

by DragonStar23 on 2012-02-20 16:45 CET

I really think cage needs to be in every tempered steel decks side board. It barely effects them at all and can shut down so many decks in the format, and its an artifact!!!

Poor GunsAndDope...

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-20 18:29 CET

Jordan is the country beside Dave, right?

by judas_bcn on 2012-02-20 22:14 CET

i think terri's comment should imply an inmediate ban

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-20 23:02 CET

"Imply an immediate ban"? If English isn't your strong suit; stick with concise phrasing. That's what I do when communicating in non-native languages.

by styx^ on 2012-02-20 23:45 CET

maybe he meant it should implicate the inmate "ben"? :E

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-20 23:55 CET

I've heard that the mere mention of the dreaded b- is to invite calamity. An astute observation, indeed!

by Pegleg on 2012-02-21 00:10 CET

I thought it was a smart idea not to run gather the treefolk in a format filled with mortarpods, ratched bombs, and curse of the deathhold. Also with a honor of pure in play almost all his creatures don't get killed by spells like whipflare.

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-21 00:56 CET

swinging for 3 with Champion on turn 2 seems bad, imo.

Also, sarcasm on the internet?!

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-21 01:21 CET

All of the cards mentioned that made gather seem unwise can be easily argued to be justification for not playing WW altogether. Honor the pure is a pretty good way to blank the two mana answers too. The fact is that with honor out, gather gives you four power and if your opponent has to cast something to deal with one, let alone a sweeper, the fact that you got two guys out of one spell or maybe even 241'd is unchanged.

I don't play humans, as a control guy, I always think in terms of card advantage. Even if it seems silly to be playing a worse version of Raise the Alarm, gather still fits the bill in standard right now because it is one of the few ways that humans can generate some sort of actual card advantage.

Maybe that's way off though?

by Darkseed on 2012-02-21 04:28 CET

Hey GunsAndDope, i have an idea!!, maybe, just maybe, you should try yout teory next t2 Trial/Master and shut everyobes trap!!, maybe then people wont think you are an idiot!!

by cabof on 2012-02-21 09:26 CET

You're going to traumatize the man people

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-21 17:38 CET

The only thing traumatizing about this thread is trying to decipher Darkseed's post.

Also, you need to +1 Oblivion Ring and +1 Timely Reinforcements in the sb.

And trials are hard to play when you go to school and work part-time, but playing a sub-optimal deck because you couldn't take 5 minutes to look over the list and switch out cards as you see fit is just lame.

by xBlueDemonx on 2012-02-21 18:35 CET

GunsAnDope you complain because your father raped to you, just play with your stupid decks and try to win the trial against the other decks.

by zabimaru on 2012-02-21 18:36 CET

Guns: follow everyone's advice, specially darkseed's, and become more tolerant to people not as magicly "savant" as you (including netdeckers, who obviously did something right since they won a trial)). If you care so damn much about the matter come up with the next best homebrew and win something we'll all apreciate it.

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-21 20:08 CET

The guy's from Jordan, so he is unmoved by everyone hating him. Keep in mind too that he is so busy that he hasn't bothered to look into the most format-defining event of this quarter. It follows that no one so busy and ignorant could have the time to become good at this game.

I can't blame him for probably being distracted by people being beheaded/stoned over trivial crimes. I'd be angry, ill-informed, and stupid if I was from Jordan, or any other country that is named after a basketball player.

by xBlueDemonx on 2012-02-21 20:23 CET

@ChristPunchr : Good point street philosopher hahahha

by GunsAndDope on 2012-02-21 21:57 CET

lol, named after a Basketball player.

by ChristPunchr on 2012-02-21 23:53 CET

Is this like the interwebs equivalent of that one super toxic employee at the office being put in their place by a less toxic employee- after which, there's people who start emerging from their cubicles and say things like "I have been hiding under my desk for the last three years to try to block out his existence...thank you, sir". Obviously there'd be a 80s slow-clap and freeze frame sky punch too.

It's so annoying when someone tries to detract from the achievment of another with a poorly-founded opinion. None of the real decks in standrd are even that brainless because they have to beat multi-facetted decks, like delver and rg ramp. Just look at the beyond boring TnN decks in modern where there's basically no room for making creative plays because the deck's literally ramp, land tutors, TnN, and TnN creatures. It's not even an interesting deck to beat because it's soft to so much hate.

by xBlueDemonx on 2012-02-22 05:31 CET

I want to cry with that hahah
