by Truth- on 2011-12-03 23:39 CET

Nothing much Apple. How are you?

by Atreties on 2011-12-04 01:32 CET

All of these loses handily to a good Martyr Proc list.

No clue why more people don't play it.

by Shooter on 2011-12-04 01:56 CET

I'm REALLY curious about that martyr list that beats combo so easily. Care to share?

by cloysterd on 2011-12-04 02:04 CET

If anyone is curious:

R1 - WUB Teachings
R2 - Opponent dropped (He was running RG Eldrazitron)
R3 - Merfolk
R4 - 5C control
R5 - Bye
R6 - Domain Zoo

by Straw_Hat on 2011-12-04 02:21 CET

i was curious about that

by bosty on 2011-12-04 03:27 CET

The Ad Nauseam list has no outs to a turn 0 Leyline of Sanctity other than the 2 Scorns. Simian Spirit Guide ftw. Would some Echoing Truth be ok?

by ChristPunchr on 2011-12-04 03:45 CET

I have doubts about a martyr deck winning games, so much as it keeps itself from losing. I'd assume said list probably has some dorks in it that can be used as threats. Probably a few of the best creatures that people already know about: figure, finks etc. Blech. 45 minute rounds and peoples' lack of comfort with the format make martyr seem silly.

The format is crazy wide open. People are probably keeping their good decks to themselves, for use in irl tournaments...that happen one day hopefully.

by RogueLinkz on 2011-12-04 03:49 CET

@Atretis

Never had a problem vs Martyr Proc so far and I've played vs it a bunch of times with the list you see above.

by ChristPunchr on 2011-12-04 04:57 CET

I just sorta glossed over the AdN list out of habit from 1.5.

After looking at it, it's pretty cool. Seems pretty tech. I can see it beating martyr. The games would need to be pretty tightly-played, but it can dump 20-40 pretty consistently I bet. People don't seem to appreciate how creatively people can play pacts and so on.

@Cloystered: Is that list "done" or are you keepin it oiled so to speak?

by xJudicatorx on 2011-12-04 05:28 CET

No one should ever lose to Modern Ad Nauseam. At least this version actually has the cabability of playing Conflagrate twice on the turn it is drawn, but it's still a 3 card combo(Ad Nauseam, Angel's grace or unlife, Lotus Bloom) that has to be in your opening hand in order to go off before dying to zoo.

Personally, I think people are scooping to it without making him actually play the combo out and win.

by ChristPunchr on 2011-12-04 06:28 CET

Wouldn't be the first time probably.

by Ludz on 2011-12-04 10:21 CET

Nice deck cloysterd! Well played!

by xJudicatorx on 2011-12-04 10:28 CET

Oh also, @ Atreties: How does Martyr Proc beat infinite damage comboes?

by cloysterd on 2011-12-04 16:15 CET

@bosty: The sideboard was sort of slapped together at the last second. With Teachings and all the dig spells 2 Scorn is more than you might think, but I would probably add some more outs.

@ChristPunchr: I netdecked it a few minutes before the trial and only had time to make a couple changes; I already tweaked the mana a bit.

@Judicator: Lotus Bloom is not strictly necessary. Pentad Prism is enough to go off on turn 4 if I don't miss a land drop. I'll be the first to admit I got some lucky draws, but the only times I really needed to topdeck were when I got Thoughseized.

by ckfnpku on 2011-12-04 17:46 CET

Why would you need more answers to leyline? You draw your entire deck when you ad nauseum don't you? Which means Leyline just makes you pay an extra W to cast angel's grace when you go off.

by ckfnpku on 2011-12-04 17:50 CET

Assuming you were on phyrexian unlife and sided in the patricians scorn that is.

by Raybelfast on 2011-12-04 20:09 CET

@xJudicatorx Kami Of False hope Stops the infinite creature damage angle.

by darkwizard42 on 2011-12-04 20:46 CET

@Raybelfast I still don't see how it stops ANC from winning?

Also can't they just burn your Kami of False Hope at your EOT, create infinite tokens and then on their turn swing and win...

by cloysterd on 2011-12-04 20:56 CET

@ckfnpku - That's... right. Did I mention I threw the sideboard together at the last minute? XD

by seedub on 2011-12-06 17:22 CET

kami of false hope vs punishing fire. who wins? seriously martyr proc is fine combo but it seems like the people that play it assume it will find its combo better than any other deck, resolve it 100% of the time, and that nothing can beat life gain. Theres a reason lifegain decks are historically considered "kiddy decks"
