27 poeple in a constructed trial. Don't tell me m-l is heatly...

by Chefy on 2011-05-06 21:05 CET

I think this turnout has less to do with the health of Magic-League and more to do with the health of Extended.

by jfc on 2011-05-06 21:05 CET

tks Esquilo for conceding to me when i lost :)

27 people and 5 rounds, fail trial, extended died.

by Djinn on 2011-05-06 22:03 CET

We had a 68 players standard trial yesterday. It definitely had to do with the format :D

by Mitchmachine on 2011-05-06 22:11 CET

obvious.
extended season is over, no ptq's gp's or gpt's

by LLSheep on 2011-05-06 22:13 CET

Don't forget, it's exam period too.

by MassO on 2011-05-06 22:52 CET

Finals week started for me today, if i wasn't in the library for the bast 6 hours i would have played. It also doesn't help that some of these trials start at weird times, people have to work, go to school, ect. Magic-league is healthy, just look at all the people on mIRC.

Seriously people, i know that wizards mutiltated extended in a way close only to a gender changing surgery, but still it does not deserve that :/ ... :)

by mishimakaz on 2011-05-07 00:02 CET

failed format is failed

by MTGKing on 2011-05-07 03:47 CET

hmm why would the splinter twin deck not also play pestermite...

by meoni on 2011-05-07 08:33 CET

because the splinter twin deck has joined the trial at the last second, with the t2 deck, and he has changed some cards in 1-2 minutes :D

by ChristPunchr on 2011-05-07 09:57 CET

The DCI gave 1.x HIV with repeatedly shrinking its card pool. It's been losing crazy weight and has been getting gradually worse for a pretty long stretch of years.

1.x has finally gone full-blown. A scene from Trainspotting comes to mind.

The funniest thing is that when 1.x first got changed, there were a lot of people complaining about how the format was going to die eventually and that was before they shrunk 1.x even more. Most were just being typical nerds and hating change, but made pretty good arguments and it is weird how things have gone...usually eternal format-types cry about how the sky is falling whenever anything changes, but nothing becomes of it.

What an abominable format this is now. They should just put one between 1.x's eyes already.

by on 2011-05-07 10:31 CET

Or, add more sets and restore it to its proper 'Extended' status.

Or even, make the 'Overextended' format true, with sets starting from I dunno maybe Mercadia or something.

I think this would breathe new life into the game, with more returning players that had their older staples rendered useless cos they don't fit in Legacy, and ofc new variety in decks.

by ChristPunchr on 2011-05-07 10:49 CET

Invasion to Kamigawa block would be safer oldest blocks probably. They'd have to rape affinity preemptively for best results. Going backward, in trying to cure 1.x's rotation aids is unlikely though. A new and separate format seems awkward too. I imagine just changing the policy, letting 1.5 keep going as it is until players start getting interested in 1.x again is the most likely...it isn't like a new rotation policy would make the turnout for 1.x tournaments any worse.

by jfc on 2011-05-07 11:00 CET

there is already extended plus in ml, doombringer

by on 2011-05-07 11:18 CET

I know there is, jfc, but I meant irl, they should make it true and official.

One can dream, I suppose... :>

And the bans needed would probably be the same as it was before back in the day, Disciple and Skullclamp, along with perhaps Thopter/Sword, Sensei's Top and such.

by jfc on 2011-05-07 11:56 CET

y, i agree with making extended plus legal irl, such a fun format ^.^

you also need to ban minds desire and gush :P

by Burton911 on 2011-05-07 12:49 CET

what speaks against running overextended Trials in the spots of the 1.75 Trials, outside of the Extended Season.
It should be alot more fun for everyone, and it would be as relevant as real extended is offseason.

Tough this would require, a proper banlist (im speaking to you skullclamp)

by Esquilo on 2011-05-09 17:01 CET

np jfc ;)
