GJ Steve piloting the BW Deck i designed to a 3rd place without ever playing the format...

2nd place deck illegal too... Gosh people, put in a LITTLE effort to win these trials...

Also 3 people just copy-pasting my Sharuum list from the mini and all going 0-2...

Atleast build fucking proper manabases.... 36 Basics in a 2 color stax deck just doesnt work... You can run fucking Tabernacle and Academy Ruins and Workshop in that list and whatever...

5 M11 Duals is NOT proper fixing... Just running Mana Drain and ignoring the banlist is NOT a good idea...

i hear that complaining over a game is useless as fuck. if ur going to bitch about the format either 1, dont play it, or 2, dont comment. its not very hard. posting things about a format sucking and such is useless. this was the first trial of this type, of course there will be loose enforcement on certain rules. mostly because of the fact ull never see certain cards in ur deck over a whole week of games. learn to just have fun, this obviously wasnt meant to be super competitive. its almost like complaining about formats that go to the other rating. i always see the people bitch about how bad the format is. its magic-league, have some fun. /end rant

Yes, Bribery is strong... But its a still a 5 mana sorcery and usually only strong in the control mirrors (Where decks rely only on strong finishers and very little low CMC stuff) and tapping out for a single creature out of their deck just to lose th counterwar is a pretty risky thing to do.

Liliana Vess has the same problem. I had her in the list for a long time and obviously running another tutor is strong, but shes expensive, doesnt defend herself and is really slow in creating an advantage.

You could think about going more into the extremes, either adding more countermagic and instant speed carddraw and cutting some of the expensive sorciers or transforming it more into a tap-out control with additional artifact mana, a little more tutoring and a quicker lock. Would really depend on the meta (which we likely wont have because 90% of magic-leagues suck at this format and dont put in the effort).

I would also probably add Slaughter Pact, Engineered Explosives, one Artifact Land and a Capsule with Trinket Mage to add some speed to the earlygame and make Tezzeret / Tolaria West more flexible... Im just unsure what to cut because the list is so full and so many of those cards are essential... And problaby upgrade my finisher to Magister Sphinx or Inkwell from Sundering Titan.

Btw, i dont see whats wrong with Savannah Lions. I know it doesnt look optimal, but you really want a critical mass of 1 drops to follow that with land destruction and/or discard while applying pressure. The deck obviously gets better with a 30 life starting total, but so many decks on here just scoop to Winter Orb or Turn1 Mother Turn 2 Confidant or Turn 1 Thoughtseize Turn 2 Sculler or Turn2-3 Creatures, Turn 4 Armageddon...
Its not about the creatures winning on their own, its about having a decent clock while disrupting their gameplan...


Its actually really skill intensive, especially in building and i enjoy the format a great deal.

bribery to sundering titan and first turn serra ascendant are unvaluable plays for this format

the format involves skill for developing a game plan over your build, not just play piles of powerful cards

but indeed, its just a fun format, not deserve being competitive

I like a packet of dispellers capsule, tormrods crypt executioners capsule and slaver in edh to go with sharuum plus shard. Tormorods crypt is prob the most important one, so many busted things you can do with graveyards. And angel of despair works nicely with shard also:)

@Vulpi: I never missed Serra Ascendant in that deck, because most competitive decks should have an answer to it anyways. Its not nearly as warping as t1 Sol Ring and its a really bad topdeck. The teysa deck deserves one, but Sharuum doesnt need it.
As i said, not having Bribery was a mistake, but im still tuning the list... And it definitly has a stable and reliable gameplan, which i really like...

@jonproject: I agree theres better 1 drops. Its just a deck i threw together in 30 minutes about a month ago and didnt really tune that well... It should have Serra Ascendant, Steppe Lynx etc.. Student is a bit mana intensive and i dont think its actually that much better than Lions in this deck, because you wanna be curving out with both creatures and disruption. You cant really afford to play AND level him and miss out on a potential wasteland / 1 mana discard / hatebear...

@ManfredByron: Tormod's Crypt should be Nihil Spellbomb, but i agree that it's missing. Cantripping it is more valuable than having 1 additional tutor (Tolaria West), when you can already tutor the spellbomb with all of the black tutors, Trinket Mage, Tezz, ETutor etc.
I should probably add Volrath's Stronghold, but with the lack of Crucible, it's hard to get favorable Intuition packages out of it. Sharuum and Vorosh Decks are those that make me miss Gifts Ungiven the most, but its definitly healthy for the format...

Speaking of Vorosh, my Round1 opponent's deck was probably the best and most competitive ive seen. Props to you...

Good thing I didn't wake up. 5 color Ur-Dragon Combo is the scariest deck in the format. No, it doesn't pump out dragons, it fills it's GY and than wins the game. Think complicated dredge, except it can reliably go off turn 2-3, even after being disrupted. Past that, you have Clique. Before people cracked the Ur-Dragon combo, Clique was/is the best 1vs1 deck. It wins. Hands down, mono blue with Clique is disgusting. Oh, nice general you have there? How about I bounce it to your hand and than shuffle it into your library, have fun. So all in all, i'm SUPER happy to see that people played the decks they love(Even if some were subpar, I'm looking at you mana bases and Savannah lions) because it means EDH won't be a broken format on ML. I was really expecting a ton of combo and clique.

Clique is banned in the format HotSoup...

I played clique for the last year or so with the old banlist and LITERALLY went 32-1 with it in single games and trials, only losing the mirror to Tird_Ape once... A well tuned and properly piloted Clique deck just doesnt lose, and i knew that beforehand....
Erayo is also banned, which wouldve been my next go-to list... GAIIV is strong but, i didnt feel it could keep up with the field with the lack of proper t1 mana acceleration and no crucible...

I tested Radha beforehand, but it loses a lot of its metagaming power with Clique and Rofellos not around, which were the main decks it was preying on. My list was solid and wouldve probably done well, but i wasnt sure what the meta would look like and the list wasnt finalized, so i switched to Sharuum instead...

@Jonproject: Yeah i did. I FACED Vorosh round 1 and its one of my personal favourite decks to play, even if its not on a level with some of the top decks. Im just a fanboy of Gifts / Intuition in general, and Vorosh was one of the best decks abusing those before Gifts got banned (with Sharuum being the less fun, but more competitive variant)

PS: Kind of suprised to see noone even TRIED Jhoira

Oh. I was not aware of that. I suppose the rules for EDH on ML are different. I should probably look into them. None the less, the Ur-Dragon GY Combo deck is still viable. It is, in all reality, probably the #1 best 1vs1 deck. I'm also surprised at the lack of Jhoira, she's a powerhouse and easily one of the best generals.

I run Sisay IRL, and she's not going to stand up to these insane blue based decks, so I would have to build something from the ground up. She's much better multiplayer.
