Let's say the Vengevines in the elementals list are some kind of personal preference(despite all the things pointing to them, fauna shaman, being an elemental, honestly I think they don't offer much to the archetype).

But what about those fulminators on the sb? Without them you auto-lose against valakut variants and they generally provide a much needed speed bump to most decks out there, since elementals aren't exactly lightning fast. Also, soft-lock potential with Horde. They need to find their way to the md.

The atrocity is the ammount of shriekmaws though. Let's see how he performs against the top decks of the format right now: Faeries, Valakut/Wargate, 5cc, Jund. Why, dear lord, why would you run 3 blanks in there? A 1-of against polymorph is somewhat needed to go and grab and he is not half bad in some matchups, but really, that's it!

BL, just to answer u, i see 15 cards in top 3 decks of this trial that are killable with shriekmaw just in main and another 3 in side of jund. also, fae plays blue creatures (sprite, cliques, etc)
also to agree a bit, i dont see the point of vengevine much either, but hes good in the deck. he can be played on turn 3 with alot of consistancy it seems. also evoking counts towards the 2 casts to recur him. tho i do think fulminator should see play in the main a bit.

that's pretty relevant in the current format last i checked.

i mistyped, was 25 in 3 decks
1st deck has 5 guys, 4 are killable.
also, fae is all blue guys except the tokens.
gw hideaway is all killable.
naya is all killable.

this seems to be all the stuff in ext. all the relevant decks have a ton of guys to hit. the only one not so nice to face is probably jund and ooze combo, but u can just use it for shaman.

First of all, i was talking about the major archetypes that i listed. (i think i also mentioned he wasn't bad against some other decks)

Secondly, counting legal targets is irrelevant. Would you say coiling oracle from the scapeshift deck last season is worth mentioning as a target?

Same with most of the creatures you mention. Killing a vendilion, or a bbe, or a vengevine isn't part of your game plan. If you'd played this deck you would know that random creatures are not only ignored, but in fact welcomed. For stuff you must kill, like demigod, wurmcoil, anathemancer, you can tutor up crib swap(which should be md).

There is an argument about fauna. And apparently this build tried to adress the issue by including 3 maws and the inversion instead of crib swap. But i find fauna dangerous only when facing ooze and to a lesser extent jund.

BL, the decks u mentioned all have alot of non-black guys. u dont play things for situational use. shriekmaw can easily pick off a guy and allow ur team to swing lethal. fae is mentioned in ur archtype list and is all blue creatures as i said before. jund also has quite a few non-black creatures, and if killing bloodbraid is what you need, then you do it.

Ok, apparently you can't read what i said, or don't get it.

A question to make things easier: Would you say all the decks that could produce black mana in any format shriekmaw was ever legal in, included him? I say about 2% did. Many actually wouldn't mind him being there. This deck doesn't mind him.

But it doesn't need him. Surely, when you kill a bloodbraid, it is dead and gone. But that's rarely your plan. Thepths could play shriekmaw, but had the luxury to spit on most of your creatures' face. Don't take this luxury away from this deck. It is at heart a mid-range-combo deck. Random vengevines don't accomplish much in it either. If you NEED something killed, tutor for him. (again, fauna is sth to consider)

Wouldn't a vexing shusher be almost always better than spellbreaker in the board on account of the fact that harbinger can tutor for shusher? It's more reliable and protects more of your spells, not just horde. On the other hand, fauna can tutor for spellbreaker, so meh...

When elementals were t2 legal, you could find 3 Behemoths sb. They weren't there to protect against countermagic, though it was a nice bonus. They were meant to be this cheaply costed big creatures to help against mid-range creature decks faster than yours. Apparently, he copied that and didnt have an idea what was going on. You need more for the job they are intended, cuz you dont want to tutor them, you want to draw and cast them asap. And btw, Baloths are much better at that, though you can use the Behemoths in numbers in other situations as well.

@BL: I'd say at least half the decks overall piloted by individual players ran some number of Shriekmaw. I'm not saying its always correct, but 2% is ridiculous.

Let's not forget all his time in the spotlight when you could Momentary Blink him. Later on, him and Mulldrifter were the centerpieces of Mannequin decks that dominated type 2 for a while, then he kept seeing play as a 1-of in everything from Doran decks, to Elf decks, to Faeries, to 5cc, to BR burn/midrange decks.

@BL Imho the biggest aggro decks in the format are naya and mythic....neither of which are on your "list." When you are playing vs. those decks, you dont want to have 1 thing to tutor for to kill 1 dude... you cant let fauna live you cant let reliquary live, sometimes you have to draw answers. If fauna naya decks arent playing linvalla main, they arent built optimally. You cant let her hit the board and wait til you draw a 1 outer. Shriekmaw is an anti aggro card, your list doesnt even have the best aggro decks on it. I also feel like spitebellows should be in there somewhere, at least he kills titans and wurmcoils.
