ravenous trap is instant speed your opponent cant play around it, at least dredge will not not start dredging because they are afraid of a trap etc.

Yeah the best 8 cards aren't extended (bs, fow).

Trap > Leyline because you can brainstorm/ponder into trap and be fast enough but turn 4 leyline is way too slow. Also you can float trap on top of your library with top/brainstorm and when they therapy you they think they are good to go off and then you win.

Why counterspell over cb in the second deck? Now combo > you. (well ok not belcher but a well played ANT)

Let's not forget Daze and duals. As for Cspell vs. Cbalance, Cspell is good alone and harder to build against. Also, more reliable and faster.

E.g. Stax is much, much better vs. Counterbalance than Counterspell. Also, having to tap out on your own turn is still kinda bleh. And everyone has Grips anyways.

Not saying Counterbalance is horrible; the winning list contains it after all, but it's not like it's strictly better than Counterspell.

"My" deck is actually Stephen Menendian's, from his latest article.

Like Stephen wrote, the deck isn't a Dark Depths combo deck. Most games I won with Tarmogoyf or even Dark Confidant beats. The threat of Dark Depths is nice though.

Also, I hate playing Top decks over MWS. I don't like doing stuff without permission, which means I go "Ok?" at (almost) every top activation. That makes rounds go to time almost every time, which sucks. I'm happy it's banned in extended! :)

Dumbest post ever. Brainstorm, Daze, Force of Will, underground sea, tropical island, polluted delta, flooded strand.... all extended cards. Man u are a genious.

And yes , thank god that Top was banned(lol). Now because of it, u have decks like zoo and dark depths that can roll u over before u really enter in the game..... Thats great, isnt it? Geez...

I placed fourth and I lost to ludz and think the deck I played was just lucky. I had amazing draws and mulligans to reach top 4 and when the smoke cleared ludz countertop deck was better. Props to you Ludz. Game 2 and 3 I didn't know if he had anything other than black creatures so I pulled snuffout from the md. Mistake because he beat me with Goyfs.

Shagrath: Do you really think countertop would even be viable at the present Extended landscape? It would most likely be played IN Countertop and its ilk, but given Zoo's speed and curve and the various tools available to combo-decks in Xt, it seems pretty obvious to me that Countertop wouldn't even be very good.

I think CounterTop would be very viable, among others it seems like a great thing versus Punishing Fire combo (on the other hand, stacking 5cc on top to counter Baneslayer seems harder). It wouldn't be the monster everyone makes it out to be though.

Still, I like that top is banned due to the fact that it takes 100 years to play a game with it.

I think top should be banned in legacy as well. Not because countertop is too strong, we do have grips after all, but games just take so much longer when both players have one in play.
And more and more decks start running it.. countertop, landstill, rock, doomsday ant. Heck, it's even a great one off in zoo.
