Is Morphling really that good? Isn't there any other creature in Legacy better for a mono-blue control deck? Tell me, seriously, because I don't know. :P

In our match, Morphling seemed really poor, against aggro decks it's way too slow, and tapping out is not usually the way forward, and in control, Goyf seems a better threat, even if it means splashing green.

Morphling is the best. Meloku negates land drops, lacks any form of protection. Mono blue strives to make a land drop every turn so it can handle countering multiple spells and be able to FoF eot. Oona is fucking terrible too, though she at least doesn't provide negative tempo. The best card aside from Morphling is call of the skybreaker because it provides five times the oomph for the land you discard compared to the lower cost and notably lower impact effect of Oona.

In all honesty though, that MUC w/W list isn't very good and two b2b between the sideboard and main is fucked. B2B turns many of the dtb of the format on their ears.

It prays to burn the opponent out when they go for Ad Nauseam, or low enough to stop them from winning with Ad Nauseam. Fireblast is especially excellent for that.

Of course, that does nothing about the IGG loop. Basically though, Zoo tries to race and usually fails. Gaddock Teeg almost requires an answer (it's possible to get enough storm to win without resolving any of the big spells, but it isn't very easy) so it could steal G1 with a lot of luck (finding it, living to drop it and being fast enough to win after playing it before ANT can win anyways), but post-board the Echoing Truths and Pacts can come in and deal with it.

MUC finisher should be something unkillabale or recureable. Vendilion, Teferi, Meloku and Oona all suck. Even Inkwell Leviathan and Isleback Spawn are better than them. While having shround and evasion at the same time, Morphling and Rainbow Efreet were the best MUC creatures for a long time and are still ok after m10. And Call of the Skybreaker is probably the best MUC finisher available novadays, though you still need at least one creature in addition to it.

I hate Call the Skybreaker to be honest; finisher has two functions in MUC. First is to obviously win the game, but second and classically much more important (the reason Morphling is favored over Zephid, for example) is that it stems the flow of creatures. Costing 7 mana is very antisynergistic with this goal, which is why I hate Call the Skybreaker.

Right now, Morphling is pretty bad though due to a combination of people using really big creatures heavily (Tarmogoyf, Tombstalker, etc.) and because M10 made it unable to save itself after dealing 5 points of damage to something so it can't kill Tombstalker and live to tell the tale (or 4/5 Goyf for that matter). This makes Morphling more of a 1-creature wall than a finisher. Meloku at least indefinitely blocks them just fine and goes for the kill with a horde equally fine. Though I really like none of MUC finishers right now for the second duty which is why I really prefer MUC/w with Decree of Justice and white options.

Yeah eternal dragon is a pretty good win condition too. Btw that ANT list (and most ant lists for that matter) scoops to gaddock teeq game 1.

Unless you combo out before it resolves. The deck does goldfish pretty fast.
