Whatever happened to the metagame?

by Dakkon555 on 2009-01-19 23:34 EDT

^
notice 3 of those decks had burrenton forge tender sb xD

by Truth- on 2009-01-19 23:48 EDT

Sadly I had to drop after round three. I beat the TC and he started getting mad because I told him I was taking the win and Dropping. I am pretty sure if I did not have to leave I would have won. My deck was really Solid. and from the looks of most of the 3-1 and up I had good match ups all around.

by JSUOversoul on 2009-01-20 00:29 EDT

That Black/White tokens list has got to be one of the worst ones I've seen. Not really meaning to be completely offensive, but it's splashing blue ONLY for Broken Ambitions and Snakeform.... why? The deck doesn't need Ambitions, and Snakeform is ok, but why not use Condemn there? It just seems really strange, and makes your mana very awkward looking. Maybe you had no problems with it, seeing how you made top 4, and maybe people have done it and it's just the first I've seen of it, but having played the deck for the last couple months, I just think the splash slots could be used for better things.

by Kytep on 2009-01-20 00:53 EDT

SilverMcHowl - I have to ask: What is your reasoning for including Timmy, Power Gamer (aka Elvish Piper)? Other than your 4 Realm Razers, it doesn't look to me like you have that many creatures so high on the mana curve that you'd have much trouble hard-casting them, rather than spending 5 mana on a vulnerable 1/1 and its first activation. But maybe I'm missing something (e.g., are the Realm Razers alone worth the Pipers; if so, what about Dramatic Entrance for less vulnerability)?? How did they work out for you? Would you keep them, or change them out for something else?

Thanks,
Kytep

Double-post

by CB on 2009-01-20 00:54 EDT

I don't get what the hell elvish piper does for that naya deck... Can someone please fill me in on how a 1/1 for 4 is ever good?

by MCDrake on 2009-01-20 01:35 EDT

These lists make my eyes bleed.

by Silkenfist on 2009-01-20 02:39 EDT

CB: Post-Razer, Piper enables you to keep dropping creatures. It also makes your Razer uncounterable.

by Finntroll on 2009-01-20 04:16 EDT

WTF happened to standard?

by rajlob on 2009-01-20 04:39 EDT

omg burreton
land burreton Go! T.T

by Weedmonkey on 2009-01-20 05:09 EDT

Realm Razor Zoo is <3, although that mana base still looks as fucked as ever.

Bant Aggro...meh, people are creaming their pants over Conflux and getting in on the orgy action and jumping the gun.

BWu tokens...that is an epic WTF

RDW...meh, it's RDW.

by TheBends on 2009-01-20 05:09 EDT

Haha rajlob i still prefere my take on Mono Red but you should play 4 Torment side because they are a house vs burrenton and maybe monglove would be good (This meta has so much burrenton :( ).

Congratz to top 4 and to SilverMcHowl for winning.

by SilverMcHowl on 2009-01-20 05:14 EDT

Kytep, CB, what Silkenfist said. Although with bloomtenders i dont always need Piper, it is a nice advantage. But the main reason, like Silkenfist pointed out, is the uncouterable Razer drop. It's also nice to drop a cloudthresher with it. I've thought about Dramatic Entrance, playing it end of their turn, then if it gets countered, Realm is less likely to be countered on mine. However, Piper just works rather solid for getting Razer out there.
And thanks Chico! Weedmonkey, that mana base has killed me once or twice :(

by ChiDoRiE on 2009-01-20 05:35 EDT

LOL

by Shagrath on 2009-01-20 05:36 EDT

No fae at top4?
It's all said.

by TugaChampion on 2009-01-20 06:54 EDT

No RW Lark at top4?

Even worse than no Fae.

by SilverMcHowl on 2009-01-20 08:04 EDT

I went up against what I assume was RW Lark (vengeant and lark was in it).

Scary deck >.> I'm curious if mine can be combined with it. You know, some sort of twisted mutant offspring.

by Trotsky1 on 2009-01-20 08:35 EDT

I honestly do not think the first place deck can afford to run the muta vaults.

by Eldariel on 2009-01-20 09:07 EDT

Btw guys, notice how pleasant and enjoyable it is without any of the national tensions around?

by TheBends on 2009-01-20 09:12 EDT

I aggree with you Eldariel :p.

Btw ElectricS does it worth splashing U just for snakeform and broken ambitions?

by ElectricS on 2009-01-20 09:24 EDT

On the BWu Tokens deck I played:

About an hour before the event I copied the list card for card from legion's winning deck from a few weeks ago. You are all right in assuming that the mana base needs a lot of work.

That said, broken ambition always seemed to counter a coulgoat ranger, reveliark, or something else that condemn or even o-ring wouldn't deal with. I'm not convinced it is correct, but I probably wouldn't have made t4 without it in this event.

The sideboard also seemed pretty terrible, which is probably partly due to my inexperience with the deck and partly due to the sideboard being terrible.

1st: I didnt get mad, you're just making that up.
2nd: You sacked hard in game 2.
3rd: Grow some brains.
4th: It's not 'your' deck. You didn't do any tweaking on it whatsoever.

by Klos on 2009-01-20 10:33 EDT

3 birds in the first deck ..... 1 more?

by rajlob on 2009-01-20 10:38 EDT

4 rounds I beat 3 Fae and one BR

by Triggers on 2009-01-20 11:20 EDT

Piper seems alright in the Naya aggro deck.

if you put piper down before realm razer that is.. and maybe have birds in play?

No it isn't! I miss last trial's fight already :(

RiQuSP: 1st you probably got mad and don't remember LOL! 2nd Sacking hard happens. 3rd Someone in m-l growing some brains doesn't happen. 4th he could be saying "my deck" meaning just the deck he was playing and not claiming he created it.

First of all you did get mad. You kept saying I should just give you the win etc. If you were not mad then it for sure seemed like it.
I never said it was my list. I just noticed the lack of the deck in the top seats. Also I did tweak the deck. My sideboard is very different from the ones usually used on magic-league and I also play the Elspeth main.
Game 2 the only card I drew that was a top deck was a second Spectral Possession.

^ you netdecked you scrub :/

So now are you making the assumption that I am a scrub because I played a tier 1 deck? If so than you are the bigger scrub for 1) thinking that netdecks is"bad" and 2) for playing subpar decks.

Again I never said the deck was my creation. Just implying that it was the deck I was playing. Just refering to it. Morons.

Yes he did get mad
Sacking is usually not sacking more like people playing to their outs and out playing others and people see it as sacking
Ml doesn't have brains in general that is why this league is dying
Exactly.

stop talking like your all that and a bag of chips please kthxbai GTFO my interwebz

by SilverMcHowl on 2009-01-20 13:58 EDT

It is insulting the people that DID make the top four.

by Eldar on 2009-01-20 14:32 EDT

Idk if anyone said this already, but the name of the first deck is Bloom Razer.

by coolcreep on 2009-01-20 15:22 EDT

He is obviously testing piper prematurely to see if it will work in the progenitus deck he is brewing up. Too bad progenitus has protection from elves, pipers, and coming into play with activated abilities.

by SilverMcHowl on 2009-01-20 16:39 EDT

Eldar, i'd prefer to call it something else, but it keeps getting turned down. BOP goes Razer is what i tend to call it.

Edit: Benny Lava came up with a clever name. Pipzor

by Hardgeus on 2009-01-20 17:04 EDT

Coolcreep what do you mean by:

"Too bad progenitus has protection from elves, pipers"

If you mean that the Piper can't cheat him into play because of protection, that's incorrect. When progenitus is in your hand, he isn't a creature yet, therefore doesn't have any protection. You can cheat him in for the same reason you can use Makeshift Mannequin on Akroma even though she has protection from black.

If that's not what you meant, never mind :)

by CB on 2009-01-20 19:45 EDT

I'm pretty sure cool creep was just making a funny.

by ZW on 2009-01-20 20:03 EDT

that 1st deck is so ridiculously horrible...

by PsyHye on 2009-01-21 16:02 EDT

I don't normally comment negatively or comment at all on this web page but I have to say something about that 1st place deck...

It's as if it was constructed by someone autistic. I have never seen Elvish Piper used competitively and for good reasons.

It's just a mess of cards, there clearly are better strategies available than this mess!

Why do I even look here to get meta trends?

by Boogaloo on 2009-01-22 02:03 EDT

Nice one SilverMcHowl!

by [R]Nchamay on 2009-01-22 19:13 EDT

God, if only I would have joined this trial I would have won. The deck I would have ran would have pwned all you nubs. God I'm awesome. fukin nubbsss. ugh.
