Finally we have a more diversed block strategy for a change. Go go go Goblins! :)

by aldaryn on 2008-06-29 13:14 MST

I've tested that GW Ramp a bit, and it can make some sick plays. You already have 3 vivids and 4 pools and 4 fertile grounds - maybe add some more vivids or mystic gates, and that deck could easily run 2 Mind Spring and pull it off for a million.

by onecleanceli on 2008-06-29 13:22 MST

I really like the diversity and I'm loving not seeing kithkin all over the place as well... I think it got too largely played and everyone decided to find something that works against it, and now we're finally seeing variety

by aldaryn on 2008-06-29 15:37 MST

Ehri, how was your sideboard...Chandra in particular?

by Ehri on 2008-06-29 15:38 MST

random

by Ggerg on 2008-06-29 16:11 MST

ya chandra and redcap look pretty bad.

by DaveK on 2008-06-29 16:11 MST

Didn't have time so I had to drop at some point. Oona is the queen!

by SOAD on 2008-06-29 16:52 MST

SPAM?

by gypsy on 2008-06-29 16:58 MST

redcap is rly good in QnT but chandra seems bad

by DESTRUCTOR on 2008-06-29 17:49 MST

interesting top-4 the GW ramp and the goblin list seems pretty good i'll give it a try

Maybe blue on the GW ramp is a good idea because it lacks of card drawing...and/or fixing the mana base to use 1-2 mind shatter on sb as well (depends on how it performs against faeries and QnT)

by gypsy on 2008-06-29 17:51 MST

if ur going to keep adding colours to mana ramp just play 5 colour control

by Lantero on 2008-06-29 18:40 MST

GG from Viena.

2 copies of frogtosser banneret? EarlyCurve-necessary cards allways should be 4-slot i think.

by Kurse on 2008-06-29 18:50 MST

21 land in the goblin deck? with 4 profane command and 12 cards that cost 4 cmc or more? what am i missing?

by CMA-Flippi on 2008-06-29 19:09 MST

you're missing the lands :D

by fortuna on 2008-06-29 20:08 MST

ESPAÑA CAMPEONA

A POR ELLOS!!OE

by ZW on 2008-06-29 20:18 MST

What a horrible trial...only 2nd and 4th decks are competitive. Why not play firespout in the green-white deck? Also, the goblin list is terrible. It needs 4 x Frogtosser and way more than 21 lands. The player using it must've gotten incredibly lucky to play his 19 cards that require 4 or more mana. I'm amazed at how he won. Also, kithkins beats most of these decks. It just wasn't played alot, which is sad, as it is one of the best if not the best deck in the format.

by gypsy on 2008-06-29 20:36 MST

actually faeries is the best deck in the format, gw ramp is a good deck you dont need firespout, makes their forge tenders dead cards. kithkin like ww in every block format has been taken over by the real decks now that the format has become more defined.

by ZW on 2008-06-29 21:15 MST

NICE STRATEGY!!! Don't play firespout, their 1/1 can't use its ability. Fail. Anyway, GW ramp is horrible vs. Kithkins, as is that horrible goblins, and both faeries and quick and toast are less than favorable versus it. And last year, WW and GW were good decks the whole season, and in Kami block, WW got good late in the season, and was a dominant deck.

by DaveK on 2008-06-29 21:53 MST

In late KBC, when 80% of the pros played Gifts, WW wasn't that good.

GW ramp is actually pretty good against kithkin. For reference, check Mike Flores's latest article on wizards.com

And against kithkin, I'm not sure whether faeries has a bad matchup, but I did 2-0 one of them on my way up.

by tcook589 on 2008-06-29 22:12 MST

Just got back from the Star City Games weekend and I can honestly say that this format is very diverse. However, the first and third decks are quite random.

It's becoming more evident that faeries, 5c control, and elementals are the best decks. Kithkin did not make a top 8 spot or even really make much of a showing at all this weekend, but that is typical of a format as it develops.

by gypsy on 2008-06-29 22:14 MST

last year gw was terrible it couldnt beat a good teachings player. white weenie is always good at the begining of a block season, then it becomes less viable, its still decent but no where near dominating. i never had trouble beating ww in kami block with any deck i played, all you had to do was land jitte advantage over them, or just play gifts. not saying white weenie isnt good, it becomes a lot less powerful later in the season as the format becomes more defined and the metagame is established. ramp is an underrated deck it top8ed a ptq or 2 and will get played more as it can blow opponents out sometimes

by Ashmatan on 2008-06-29 23:55 MST

Bottom line:
5c Elementals>>QnT>>Kithkin>>Faeries

The 5c deck is a toolbox deck that has all the answers to the meta at this point.
QnT is a variant of the 5c deck.
Kithkin gets crushed by the other decks via shriekmaw, firespout, and BIG guys that are the finishers. NO kithkin are big enough to handle the power of these finishers and do not have the card advantage late game to come back from the phrase "firespout your board".
Kithkin are JUST fast enough to wipe out Faeries. I have only lost ONCE to Faeries with Kithkin in minis, trials, masters...ONCE.
I just don't see where Faeries are good enough in block to be competitive...so much hate for them and so much stubbornness in people to try to make the switch from T2 to block and still say they are that good. I just don't see it. Keep them in T2 cuz they are that good in that format. Block, however? IMO they just don't cut the mustard. It DOES depend completely on the pilot. I'm saying that cuz of my only loss. The pilot was on point with all of his plays and was the only one to play Vendillion Clique correctly that I had seen in all my matches.

by gypsy on 2008-06-30 00:13 MST

so you beat randoms on ml and dismiss faeries in block? faeries is the best deck hands down, yes sometimes u lose randomly to a tresher or smt but it is still the best deck, kithkin has to have the nuts to beat you game 1 after sb its very hard for them to win. i agree elementals is very good as it had game vs every deck.

by navajita on 2008-06-30 03:47 MST

go go vulpi is the winner

by coolcreep on 2008-06-30 04:26 MST

Ashmatan: "Kithkin are JUST fast enough to wipe out Faeries. I have only lost ONCE to Faeries with Kithkin in minis, trials, masters...ONCE."

I have never lost to kithkin while playing faeries in block. In fact, I have never lost a single game on ML while playing faeries in block. In fact, I have never lost a game while playing 5c slivers in block. Obv. those are the 2 best decks in the format.

by coolcreep on 2008-06-30 04:26 MST

Epic double post. As much as I would love to keep it here to double up on the scrub pwnage, I will instead direct you to the post above this one, as it is epicly kewl.

by dv8r on 2008-06-30 04:58 MST

clearly noone who thinks faeries beats kithkin consistantly post sb has heard of the concept of "second level metagaming"

by TugaChampion on 2008-06-30 06:46 MST

skill in faeries actually matters

by floodstorm64 on 2008-06-30 21:25 MST

I considered Faeries a bad matchup going into a PTQ; faced faeries 6 out of 8 rounds, lost to them twice. I don't know what to think of faeries right now, I feel like i'm more likely to run into a BAD faerie player than a good one.

by Bballhopstar on 2008-07-01 10:21 MST

vuLpi you are a pro

by Kenseiden on 2008-07-05 17:59 MST

So inclonclusive... Saying Fae is bad but it still win so consistenly! However, I won't go faeries on PTQ, since it losts so much to WW.

I'm going to test goblins right now.
