Burrenton Forge-Tender = gg

by Lynolf on 2008-06-17 18:03 MDT

What? No Kithkin on top4? Impossible! Guess miracles do exist. I wonder if I should start to believe in God now... :O

By the way, isn't that a Quick n'Toast deck?

by trueeevil on 2008-06-17 18:05 MDT

LLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLL poison the well. Smash to smithereens, faultgrinder. This deck makes me very sad. puncture bolt. no firespout. :(

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-17 18:06 MDT

hey i have to kill basics some how (poison the well does this fine and deals 2 damage )

huh no firespout? Might want to reread the list, puncture bolt is anti finks and heartmender( it does work) smash was my lack of format knowladge, faultgrinder was simply a consession of needing more ld vs decks with basic lands.

forgetender would suck to a degree, agien consesion for simplyu not knowing the format, like at all. i knew 3 decks going in kithkin, fairys and quickentoast ( and other 5 color variants i just built a deck i felt was decent vs the 5 color stuff ( LD) and good vs random aggro stuff ie kithkin, rouges ( 8 main deck pyrclasum effects pluse sidebaorded boults and scars for added removal)

by god1801 on 2008-06-17 18:21 MDT

warwizard did you lose or cede?

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-17 18:23 MDT

lost, game 1 he had infinit counters, game 2 i had a lot of touble with double scion of oona ;) and drew no wrath effects.

if i had to play this over agien, i would be same main deck, mabey i would go the green mana rampsome one told me about after the event but i don't know i never seen a list. the side would def change, i would keep the puncture boults ( why don't nay one like these? they kill finks in 1 hit and make heartmender a 4 mana bear =/ and are not horrid vs other decks.) the 1 poision the well and the 2 faultgrinders ( yeah i actuly liked them) the rest would be stuff to jam up fairys scicne that does seem to be pretty bad, proly would add shushers or gutteral responses.

by BigShow on 2008-06-17 18:31 MDT

what was played?

by Ggerg on 2008-06-17 19:01 MDT

i'm pretty sure that's one of the worst quickntoast lists i've seen.

by Dr_Nico on 2008-06-17 19:30 MDT

I'll say it again, warwizard is just full of win.

by aldaryn on 2008-06-17 20:39 MDT

Apart from the lack of a 4th firespout, the qnt list is fine. A lot of pros at the Columbus PTQ had opted for fulminator mage over kitchen finks, and i think it's a good idea.

by ZW on 2008-06-17 21:11 MDT

Wow...smash to smithereens. That list and sb are ridiculously bad. How many decks play persist creatures that need puncture bolt? Did kithkins forget to play forge-tender or fortend? And for people who ask how he lost to faeries, how was he even competitive? His mass removal is all sorcery speed, so it gets countered, and Tarfire, Flame Javelin, etc. is just crap. How does your deck beat a deck with more than 0 counters? It has no early drops to put pressure on, so you just wait while they counter everything. I would also thoroughly enjoy seeing your deck play against an Oversoul of Dusk. Everyone please copy his deck and play it next trial, so I can win with my 52 Plains 4 Oversoul, 4 Forge Tendor deck. Also, most of the time, your firespouts don't even work against faeries! I am in absolute shock of how that deck was competitive.

by nasa on 2008-06-17 21:39 MDT

4 fire-lit thicket,
his spouts do work against fae,
im not defending the deck, i think its chaff also, but he could hit fae.

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-17 22:50 MDT

ZW

thank you for actuly readng my posts =D (scarcasum) and funny enough i did beat a oversole deck thank you..kind of hard to cast a 5 mana guy with no lands ;)

did i get smashed by fairys...yes. DUH look at the first placed deck. Should you copy my deck FUCK NO its not tuned derf, who asked how i lost to fairys?? o_O

Be in absolute shock its fine, as i said i preyed on all the 5 color decks that were ran today, is the deck spectaculer solution to the format for fucks sake no, is it the start of a playable glasscannon for the format, yeah.

and before you spout off shit read posts, ty.

by AkYo on 2008-06-17 23:23 MDT

i came up with that mono red deck too.. but i ran Dues over Demigod and 4th Poison the Well taking out 4th command for side .. 4x demigod in sb vs non-counter decks and 4x Hurly Burly :}

edit.. 25 Land for consistancy and no mutavault :]

by Holzi on 2008-06-17 23:30 MDT

nobody says anything about faeries....

by AkYo on 2008-06-17 23:35 MDT

hehe faeries will always be faeries .. best deck in formatzzzz

by natethetank on 2008-06-18 01:12 MDT

i dont see how that almost monored deck is better in anyway to a monoblack ld deck.

if the comment was about the irony of "pros" playing at a ptq, call them semipro or w/e, but they were name players, idk if they just felt like dreamcrushing or what but they were there with a list like that.

by S1lv3r on 2008-06-18 06:59 MDT

To be right, fulminator is better.

by Hawkins on 2008-06-18 08:53 MDT

i played a list similar to this at the ptq in minneapolis and it was very good going 5-2. the worst card seemed to be broken ambitions, u never have the mana up early and it is terrible late. sorry wanted to vent. is anyone with me?

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-18 09:34 MDT

by natethetank on 2008-06-18 01:12 MDT

i dont see how that almost monored deck is better in anyway to a monoblack ld deck
what black ld is in the format?

poison the well and mage only, red gives you command ( it really is nutty in thsi format)

by Trotsky1 on 2008-06-18 10:22 MDT

Congrats Warwizard I like the deck even if no one else does.

I posted a list quite similar to war wizards except running black in the forums about a week ago. You get alot of advantages from running black, like acess to thoughtseize, shreikmaw, profane command and nameless inversion which is better than lash out if your running ld plus vs forgetender as well as festercreep sb which is huge in this format. If you want to check it out its under the lbc section under RB midrange I would really like to here your opinion on the pros and cons off adding black warwizard either here or in the block thread.

Could you give us a run down of your matches and what cards worked for you and which were a let down as were testing quite similar lists I'd really like to know.

So far in my testing I have been really pleased with incendiary command and probably most disappointed with flame javelin. It just seems chamelon collosus is hardly played in block and racing with burn has never worked vs faeries with me, though I have managed to beat it with the dude having turn 2 bitterblossom every game, plus game 3 triple mist blind clique though game 2 i did thoughtseize it away.

by snoopster on 2008-06-18 11:31 MDT

warwizard's deck seems fine to me. i have a hard time seeing how most of you guys didn't think it was good; it seems to beat faeries and 5-color pretty handily, and kithkins is fine if they don't draw forgetender.

by ZW on 2008-06-18 11:39 MDT

How does it beat faeries snoopster? And he plays 4 green sources, he'll rarely get green online for spout. And how is Incendiary Command any good? Its a bad firespout vs. Kithkins, and it doesn't resolve vs. faeries. Obviously its still good vs. Kithkins, but against everything else, it sucks.

by gypsy on 2008-06-18 13:07 MDT

it doesnt even beat 5 colour that much

by onecleanceli on 2008-06-18 14:02 MDT

to whoever said 4x demigod sb vs non-counter decks, WHY? that doesnt even make sense.. demigod is amazing vs control... l2play nub

by warwizard87 on 2008-06-18 17:32 MDT

zw incendiary command is like a one sided wildfire i get to direct toward a specific land, oh if no guys 4 to the dome, it is proly the 2nd best command in block, behind cryptic with primal command following behind. Actually gypsy i played mostly 4-5 color decks all day long i ate them pretty handily the only 2 colored decks i played were g/w oversole, u/b control ( midnight banshee + counters and manquin) and fairies. I did not get to face kithkin but how can you say i would have so many problems against them? main deck i have 8 1-2 mana burn spells 4 3 mana pyroclasums 4 3 mana 4 damage burn spells 4 4 cost ftks wannabes and 4 5 mana psudowildfires. and after board my 2 mana spell count goes up with puncture bolt ( scar is useless i know my bad ;) )

the main deck is fine, i would like to try the black build, manaquining a fulminator seems amazing so does nameless inversion. I did like the javelin though 4 to the head was cake. but adding profane command inversion and mannequin might make that much more efficient.

I have been thinking about the forge tender conundrum and i as considering going janky and adding moonglove extracts but black may be the best rout to go there.

for the side if i kept the current deck i would go
4 puncture bolts ( they are are better then you think)
2 faultGrinder ( you need to kill basic lands with fertile ground on them)
1 poison the well( 5 color decks and g/w)
4 vexing shusher( fairies and other counter centric decks)
3 moonglove extracts ( forge tender)
1 guttural response ( 5th psudo shusher or you go 3 shusher 2 response which ever floats your boat)

And so people stop saying it.....I GOT MY ASS HANDED TO ME BY FAIRYS!!!!!!!!!!!OMFGBBQ i had no instant speed way to protect my stuff, and 4 firelight thickets is not enough green mana ( though to be fair i did hit them a lot ;) )

by ZW on 2008-06-18 18:27 MDT

Incendiary command...2nd best command in block... wow...do you not understand austere is better vs. kithkins and every other deck? 1. You can make it work for everything, or protect your bigs. 2. It kills big creatures incendiary doesn't. 3. Forfend and forge tender can't stop it. Also, primal command is sooooo much better than incendiary, which is good vs. 1 deck, ok vs. 5c and dead vs. everything else. That was probably the most hilarious comment i've heard in weeks.

by ChiDoRiE on 2008-06-18 18:34 MDT

s1lv3r giving away my decks

by Manipulation on 2008-06-18 18:40 MDT

I'd tend to agree with Incendiary Command being the worst, as the other 4 all have MUCH more broad uses. But I wouldn't throw it out if I needed Firespouts 5-8.

by Trotsky1 on 2008-06-19 09:55 MDT

incendiary command is much more than just a firesprout, the point is its good vs kithkinis good vs fae, its good vs QnT you never do not want to draw it. There are few cards you can say yeah no matter the match up i would quite like to draw 1.

by ZW on 2008-06-19 18:19 MDT

HAH! Incendianry command is not good vs. GnT or 5c. 5 mana stone rain...hot. Also, its not very good vs.faeries, as it is slow and sorcery speed.

by snoopster on 2008-06-20 00:07 MDT

how about you calm down, ZW, and actually test decks before tearing them apart and insulting their creators?

by SoggyToast on 2008-06-20 01:40 MDT

Incendiary Command is pretty dismal looking at it in a vacuum, but when you consider that it's backed up by Fulminator and Poison the Well, the extra LD can actually pack quite a punch. If 5cc doesn't have Broken Ambitions it pretty much loses immediately to any draw with 2-3 LD spells.

Demigod is also a nightmare to deal with.

by Holzi on 2008-06-20 07:53 MDT

demigod is the chief...

counter? ooh, i have a second one
shriekmaw? oooh, its black
inversion or redcap? oooh its too big
kitchen finks? oooh, it flies
plumeveil and eyeblights ending and oblivion ring are the best^^

by Trotsky1 on 2008-06-20 15:16 MDT

Saying Incendiary Command is a 5 mana stone rain is like calling cryptic command a 4 mana counterspell. It does something else as well, it has 2 modes. It is more than that it is versatile it gives you options, it costs a bit more sure but the card is soo much more flexible than your avergae spell that its worth paying the extra. Its burn if you need burn, land destuuction, if need ld, a board wiper if you need a board wiper or if your ridicolusly flooded a way of getting a new set of cards. So in a meta where non basic lands are some of the best cards in the format, small token creatures are arife and decks are dealing damage to themselves it is more than just good.

by dere on 2008-08-05 10:42 MDT

(my first post)
About Mono Red deck:
This post it's dedicated to anyone who don't bealieve on mono red deck's power.
First about the deck weak's points: 1) Oversoul of Dusk; It's need 5 mana vs a deck with 11 card to destroy lands, may be it won't work as fine as you thought. 2) Burrenton; As long as that card is alone in the battlefield (always) it won't have a big impact and if you play Demigod, you will kill your enemy faster than a sibgle burrenton will... 2; Burrenton currently is on the sideboard on kithkin's decks, so you can't use it on the first match.
To play Standar format (not just block), I made a mono red, with icy manipulator (on sideboard) to counter oversoul, and quicksand to counter burrenton :) Muta/Ghitu agains't counters...? Pyroclams for Firespout, and Knoll to reemplaze Fire-Lit Thicket :) so when you hit more than seven you amplify that damage playing an extra direct damage card...
If somebody want to talk about this or my deck just add me to msn, and told me how to write a private message xd that all good luck everybody
