Nice name

by AkYo on 2008-05-29 22:28 MDT

quick n toast is like mana ramp without the ramp // chase rare -__-

by ChristPunchr on 2008-05-29 22:30 MDT

Quick n' Toast looks like a neat deck. The manabase kind of reminds me of the rath cycle manabases.

Magus of the moon 4tw

by gypsy on 2008-05-29 22:42 MDT

magus just gets killed.

by DAUBE on 2008-05-30 00:00 MDT

Guillaume Wafo-Tapa ftw

by Vesuvian on 2008-05-30 00:04 MDT

Why play white and not play Sygg? It did great things in the PT.

by Orlandu on 2008-05-30 00:12 MDT

I definetly agree on Sygg, it was amazing in the semifinals against nakamura (and I'm assuming against decks all day). At one point nakamura had an inversion, a terror, and a shriekmaw just sitting in hand.

by kfcman on 2008-05-30 00:24 MDT

by DAUBE on 2008-05-30 01:00 CDT

Guillaume Wafo-Tapa ftw

It was actually created by Manuel Boucher, Guillaume just piloted it.

by curly on 2008-05-30 00:58 MDT

eh i tested quik and toast. its good but not the best, sorta liek almost every other deck in standard lol(good ones like elves, merfolk, toast, fae, rev, red burn)

by Conkisstador on 2008-05-30 01:14 MDT

its a very rock-paper-scissor format but faeries is jsut the biggest rock paper and scissors. so all the smaller ones need to do little David things so they can beat Goliath

by DH on 2008-05-30 02:10 MDT

Chase Rare? QNT is like 20 rares only, and not the pricey ones. The most expensive card must be Cryptic C.

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 02:35 MDT

quick n toast is actually pretty good when your not under that much preassure from like oversoul or collosus but after sided its pretty good vs everything

by ringman on 2008-05-30 07:20 MDT

"It was actually created by Manuel Boucher, Guillaume just piloted it."

loool
prob u meant Manuel Bucher?

and ehri u took out primal commands? i find them quite useful, way more than mindshatters for this format and curiously i do have the exact same sb except 3 primals instead of 3 mind shatters lol if u have the time let me know why the mind shatters and not the primals ty.

by jared_dow_30 on 2008-05-30 07:30 MDT

@kby: why simian spirit guide? just to get a T2 magus? and why not shivan reef over vivid creek? And no command seems interesting too :P

by kby on 2008-05-30 07:37 MDT

my reasons....

1) im testing for regionals and don't want to trade/borrow the cards i really need, such as mutavault and Cryptic command.

2) Shivan Reef shows you have red in your mana base and it prevent's them from knowing what you have till it comes out. Even if the next time i play someone i don't drop a vivid or a red possible source... they still might even waste sb slots to md about it. It is like playing SNow lands in a deck that can't use snow, all to trick opponents.

-------
also... i got byes the last two rounds.... so i didn't even play anyone on this list of top3

---

and when you get a turn 2 Magus and back it up with 6 counterspells and a Cursechaser turn 1... your opponent can't do anything but sit there and die, especially if there playing Quick'n'Toast or Revilark

by jared_dow_30 on 2008-05-30 07:43 MDT

Interesting ideas, I might have to test them out ;)

by Shooter on 2008-05-30 08:02 MDT

that's the worst merfolk list I've ever seen. Really.
also 'quick and toast' was only good in pt due to surprise factor, now it sucks =[

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 08:08 MDT

quick n toast doesnt rly suck now

by ringman on 2008-05-30 08:19 MDT

"and when you get a turn 2 Magus and back it up with 6 counterspells and a Cursechaser turn 1... your opponent can't do anything but sit there and die, especially if there playing Quick'n'Toast or Revilark"

lol have u ever played quick 'n toast? it can lose to everything except a magus of the moon lol there are so many options available in countering, slaughter pacts, firespout, shriekmaw...

by aldaryn on 2008-05-30 08:30 MDT

I wouldn't count shriekmaw unless you have a mannequin with mana open and a maw in the yard, but you can add murderous redcap to that list.

by Kenseiden on 2008-05-30 08:33 MDT

If i could splash only sunlance without hurting the mana base I would run fish in any standard tourny.

When I was reading those mathups in PT Quick'n Toast seemed to have hundreds of cards. Oona seem better every day more, but the deck...

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 08:53 MDT

the deck is good i dont see why people think it sucks now

by Shooter on 2008-05-30 09:10 MDT

maybe cause it does suck and u have no clue about what you are talking about :P

by Mastikor on 2008-05-30 09:28 MDT

That merfolk build piloted by kby is so weird...

by kby on 2008-05-30 10:38 MDT

how do you cast Shriekmaw when you only have red mana available??

and yes my build is wierd... i was using this event to test my deck not show people the most optimal build...

i have no mutavaults... i have no cryptic commands... thats why you didn't see them. Sure ML is made for netdecking wannabe's but when you are here to practice for regionals, you are going to play decks with cards you have, not cards you think would make the deck the best.

@shooter 100% correct, this deck i played is subpar... and i know it, but sadly i guarentee you people will still netdeck it...

-------
and enjoy the sb tech, it is fun advantage vs some decks.

by onecleanceli on 2008-05-30 10:41 MDT

yeh a deck that just took 2nd definitely sucks.... ?? and did how well at the PT also?? definitely horrible deck, everyone should stop playing it

(insert sarcasm here)

by Ehri on 2008-05-30 12:10 MDT

lol its very funny to read the stuff people write about these decks :D
magus of the moon is a problem for qnt but u also have many outs and counters especially after sbing
@ ringman , u shouldnt have problems against aggro decks because ur running 4 finks walls spouts and after sb u also have redcaps and moat because of that i replaced the commands with mindshatters which improve your bad matchups (reveillark)
Also merfolk is a good mup he just won because i dropped before finals :p

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 13:02 MDT

ehri isnt the 1 detritivore rly random if you dont have primal commands anymore, although i like both im not sure which is better

by Twilight on 2008-05-30 13:11 MDT

why you play detritivore? against what? and what about faeries macabre or extirpate against rev? riftsweeper its good against faeries and red rev isnt? im just trying to read all the points of view on this deck. its really amazing i think.. ty

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 13:18 MDT

riftsweeper isnt that good vs red reveilark, i think extirpate is good, vore is for the rampish mirrors.

by Ehri on 2008-05-30 13:22 MDT

detritivore is good against : mirror ; rg/rw ramp ; "rock decks"(the bg with 6 commands)
and i dont like specific hate (extirpate/macabre) against reveillark
I think mind shatter is good vs reveillark AND other decks ; faerie mup is really good so no need for riftsweeper(and its hard to cast him turn 2 with 8 vivid lands)
and yes... maybe add 1 more detri to the sb

by Lynolf on 2008-05-30 18:50 MDT

Although I hate to agree with Shooter, he is right: that is the worst Merfolk list I've ever seen. Which makes me wonder how it won. :s

I mean, no Mutavault? No Cryptic Command? No Sower of Temptation? No cards against Red Deck Wins? No offense, but you must be the luckiest guy in the world to win a trial with a... list like that.

by gypsy on 2008-05-30 21:12 MDT

did u read what the guy wrote, he was testing with cards that he had, its not like its the hardest thing in the world to beat people for a ml trial. u just surprise them with the magus sb and most ppl will scoop

by GildedSoul on 2008-05-30 23:33 MDT

what do you put the guides and moons in for? i mean what cards do you trade out for them and against what decks

by dickburns88 on 2008-05-31 00:45 MDT

why do people comment on magic tornaments that mean nothing, why am i commenting, i think im going to go do something productive now. o and insert angry messages under me ty

by Lynolf on 2008-05-31 05:10 MDT

Ups, my mistake :p

But you should still add more lands that add red in your mana base and avoid Simian Spirit Guide and put something else.

by ZxcV on 2008-05-31 05:25 MDT

Never saw a merfolk deck soo bad.
Thats the worst merfolk deck ever ,jesus!!
How can you win with that junk? i mean , its noobie constructed and barely can do anything!
Any noob can win a trial , if it is his lucky day , he wins!

by Kurse on 2008-05-31 09:23 MDT

I personally think that Magus is just plain bad now. Granted, it is from left-field out of a merfolk deck, but it seems sort of hard to cast as you have to draw both Simian and Magus, and I would presume you bring it in against Fae so you still need to resolve it or do it when you have counters so they can't float black mana to kill it when it comes into play. Against QnT, Magus if laughable. They have a million ways to kill it.

What other decks is Magus good against? I don't think there are any is there? So, you improved a favorable matchup and took up 8 sb slots to do it. I don't like it... :(

EDIT: Sorry, didn't see the Vivid Creek's in your list. Man, how do you get away with playing CIPT lands in a deck that wants to drop dudes for the first 3 turns?

by kby on 2008-05-31 11:14 MDT

This was not my first trial win... i have won a couple, and top4'ed in countless more...

and MotM is good(and tested irl) against:
-Lark
-Blink
-Quick'n'toast
-Faeries
-doran

so yes... if i can devout 8 slots in sb to kill 5 of some of the most popular decks in the format... i will do it.

Yes it is good against faeries.... most people dont' expect it and even than a turn 2/3 magus wins games...... so until you actually test it, and learn how to outplay people.... stop flaming on a simple commenting system.

by Ehri on 2008-05-31 11:35 MDT

I cant figure out which problems lark/blink or toast has with magus

by Ownj00 on 2008-05-31 15:29 MDT

toast most definately does not suck. it's rough against merfolk, and reveilark is atrocious game one, but every other matchup is very solid (except swans/dragonstorm, but both of those decks are awful). i've been playing it a ton, i won a 200$ tourney with it last night as well (4-0-2, unintentional draw with lark, only lost one game in swiss, and one in semis). i run 3 mind shatter AND 3 primal commands. imo, mind shatter is the best card in the board, and for regionals i'm even thinking of going with the following changes to have a better game one against the aforementioned decks:

-1 coast, -1 creek, +1 llanowar wastes, +1 vivid marsh

-2 XXXXX, +2 mind shatter

+2 extirpate in the side.

mind shatter is the best possible option against your worst matchups (swans, storm, lark). i also have the 4th spout in the board for merfolk. the deck is most definitely solid. if you think otherwise then you either didn't test it enough or you had skewed results.

by Ownj00 on 2008-05-31 15:33 MDT

also, sygg is the entire reason to run white. i played the deck from states til recently, and he is absolutely crucial.

by Tms-Rock on 2008-06-01 12:07 MDT

Interesting merfolk build, seems fair keep it up Kby ^^

by MRaven on 2008-06-03 12:04 MDT

What do you think about sideboarding Mana Tithe in the Merfolk Deck. I haven't tested it out yet but I think that it probably does quite well espacially against Elves or Faeries...
