Shamans eh? Interesting... :)

Once again, tribal rules the top4.

by Eldariel on 2008-04-19 16:35 MDT

Seems like they really did it this time. Onslaught-block had Slide and GW in addition to tribal, but Lorwyn is completely tribe-dominated. I don't really know how to feel about it; on one hand it's incredibly limiting, but on the other hand, it's not much more so than normal Block and the high powerlevel makes for a number of playable Tribals instead of 'Goblins rock'.

by TugaChampion on 2008-04-19 18:20 MDT

At least this time most tribes are good enough for both constructed and limited instead of having one uber broken tribe and many crappy ones.

Also tribal is being the most successful mechanic since affinity in constructed. I mean Kami had arcane, some under represented tribes and other mechanics that never really had much impact with the exception of 1 or 2 cards. Some for Ravnica block as dredge was only abused when they decided to give it all the tools it lacked in Future Sight. TimeSpiral block had suspend, vanish, morph, madness and many other and there are no decks around any of those mechanics. In Lorwyn and Morningtide clash, champion, kinship and reinforce are also obviously not something to be abused in constructed but tribal is really dominating T2 and Lorwyn block. In that sense it's a great thing the main mechanic of he block is strong and preveilled above everything else. There are problems but those are already known.

I don't know, looking through the looking glass, there's Odyssey with its Madness- and Threshold-mechanics, both very succesful, and Invasion with the Domain-mechanic which likewise spawned powerful decks. Rebels were dominant enough in Masques to cause a banning, but that's about it; before that, stupid linear mechanics didn't really exist, definitely not as the backbone of a set design. It was awesome while it lasted.

by aldaryn on 2008-04-19 22:11 MDT

Yeah, Urza block had the advantage of just having every possible deck being broken, so it evened out ;)

Keep in mind that Shadowmoor is a much different flavor and that they were envisioning block constructed with all four sets by the end...I imagine it will function much differently. Also, the tribal themes also have some good variations instead of obvious "best" lists among a certain tribe.

However, after playing a ton with Shadowmoor today, I still don't like the set much.

TugaNoob: BG dredge was tier1 in std b4 future sight, and pickles dominated std for a while

by TugaChampion on 2008-04-20 08:42 MDT

Dredge wasn't tier1 before future sight. It was tier2 at most! And pickles never really dominated standard for a long time. When it appeared it was replaced by Dralnu and it came back for a while when lorwyn was released.

you're wrong, moron.

by kfcman on 2008-04-20 20:04 MDT

Everyone: LOLOLOL

but anyways, i like the RG deck. IMO shammys are the best tribe. And by best i mean they can be played well in most of the color combinations and be pretty good as already in the LBC trial top8s weve seen: 4c cream of shaman, mono red elemental shaman, RG shamans and ive heard that GBW treefolk shamans are rather strong also.

by Holzi "wtf bitterblossom in sb???

omfg.."

1st that saw it.
I thought that someone will tell about this before........... With blossmom 2nd turn i attack for 1 only turn 4 and usually I want kill turn 5-7. Sided it vs faires (only because them use blossom and if thay have blossom they can block any my creature) gobs (fear don't work at all) and elves only one match where I must block, realy I'm not so sure that in this mutch I need it SO MUCH.

by Holzi on 2008-04-22 05:42 MDT

blossom makes a faster clock with blackbuard or stinkdrinker bandit

and if your opponent can kill your creatures so you cannot kill as fast as you want?

blossom solves this problem, cuz it gives enough creatures
