And once again, the Island falls slightly short.

lol

by Spliff on 2008-04-09 16:03 MDT

I think doran is slowly becoming the deck to beat

by gypsy on 2008-04-09 16:08 MDT

because of one ml trial win? the t2 meta is so diverse right now its rly good there is no best deck. like if doran doesnt get turn 2 doran its not that hard to beat, that list doesnt play bitterblossom which a lot of lists have started.

by Lynolf on 2008-04-09 16:18 MDT

I think its the first time since MOR came out that a Doran deck is seen at a top4. Go go Doran ^^

by Layne on 2008-04-09 17:29 MDT

xD

by DESTRUCTOR on 2008-04-09 17:44 MDT

doran is a strong deck but is not the best deck on the format and i believe there's not a best deck in this meta...besides the deck to beat in a meta where every deck has a chance is the most popular deck (because is the one you would likelly face more in a swiss tournament)

Really interesting merfolk build, splashing red to have burn with alla the merfolk speed looks really cool

by ebbitten on 2008-04-09 17:47 MDT

merfolk build looks similar to old school fish, although without the counters

by Vedrfolner on 2008-04-09 17:54 MDT

-2 Unsummon +2 Cryptic Command?

by Shooter on 2008-04-09 17:59 MDT

I liked the idea of splashing burn in merfolks, but dunno if it's better than normal list. prob not, since I can see many times u w/o UU to play lord =[.

also, best deck in std is faeries. by far. rly far

by Jon_Ma on 2008-04-09 18:56 MDT

Cept Doran has a good matchup against faeries.

by LuCaparroz on 2008-04-09 19:44 MDT

mull 3 in top4 =(

faeries > doran OBV

by Ashmatan on 2008-04-09 20:57 MDT

Cloudthresher>>>>Faeries, that's why it wins hands down. Don't believe me? Look at 1-2 then 3-4. If it flies, it dies which means it (faeries) lost to ramp AND rock and Cloudthresher.

Oh and Verdfolner, totally agree with the unsummon switch. (UNSUMMON???) :P

by Jon_Ma on 2008-04-09 20:59 MDT

not to mention doran > faeries

last i checked everyone except mistbind is x/1

by gypsy on 2008-04-09 21:46 MDT

the fact that everydeck runs cloudthresher means that faeries is rly good. it is the best deck despite the fact that there is a lot of hate. affinity was the best deck even when everydeck had like 16 hate cards

by Pit42 on 2008-04-09 23:03 MDT

gj Lucas!

by Jon_Ma on 2008-04-09 23:40 MDT

gypsy, that's like saying just because all control decks run wrath means that creatures are good

people run cloudthresher because it's a one sided wrath against faeries. it's not the same as when people were maindecking oxidize/viridian shaman against affinity. it's not even the same as people maindecking graveyard hate against dredge.

it's more like how every green deck ran compost back when madness was good. that doesn't mean MBC was the best deck in the format.

by KrovikanMist on 2008-04-09 23:40 MDT

no cryptic command in a blue deck? I thoughts its best card......

by gypsy on 2008-04-09 23:55 MDT

i didnt mean it like that, people think just because they play cloudthresher they have a good matchup vs faeries. it takes more than 1 match to determine good matchups, faeries is one of the best decks in t2 which is why a lot of people maindeck cloudthresher. if a deck is played more than other decks like faeries is its probably for a good reason. most decks just get run over by faeries if they dont draw a cloudthresher, your argument doesnt rly make sense. when you run a hoser card md it means the deck is rly good and popular.

and to the guy who asked about cryptic command the deck doesnt play it because you want to be casting spells and activating mutavault everyturn. and theres non blue lands so you cant cast it reliably.

by Jon_Ma on 2008-04-10 00:50 MDT

the only deck that runs thresher main is mana ramp... and it isn't even for the faerie matchup, it's because it's a 7/7 for 6 with flash

by sorot on 2008-04-10 03:04 MDT

I WILL USE ARTIFACT DECK

it strong

i will be top in MASTER

my deck is secret

never one seen before

by Finntroll on 2008-04-10 04:28 MDT

@ mojo_jojo - you couldn't be more wrong with your assumptions on the thresher in both regards.

RG Ramp runs is because it's a 7/7 for 6, has reach, and deals two damage to all flying creatures AND players when it comes into play, allowing it to also effectively kill Garruks that are at two loyalty counters. His two damage, reach, and flash are all very relevant to it seeing MD play in RG Ramp.

As for RG Ramp being the only deck in standard that runs in MD...there's really nothing for me to say other than you're wrong. UBG Manaquin runs it MD, and that deck has proven itself time and time again here in trials and during the Master a few weeks ago, not to mention it winning a GPT event in Shizouka.

by boeda on 2008-04-10 05:42 MDT

Hey Lucaparroz,

how did the bottle gnomes work for you? Is the block+gain 3 enough to tip the scale?

and to Ashmatan: Doran is the least to worry about when playing faeries, even after sb..
Against r/g ramp, wich has much more instant kill, the matchup is still 50/50 in my opinion.

by DarkPhobos91 on 2008-04-10 06:26 MDT

@ Finntroll

I don't think that a CloudThresher can kill a planeswalker since the damage from the CT's triggered hasn't got a single target.

by poopascoopa on 2008-04-10 06:38 MDT

It can't. He's wrong.

by sl4in on 2008-04-10 07:11 MDT

It can kill garruk like incinerate does. You dont play incinerate on the garruk, you play it to its controler but you can choose the 3 damage to be dealt to one of his planewalkers instead of the player. Same applies for any damage that would be dealt to a player except for combat damage.

by Batutinha on 2008-04-10 07:22 MDT

UB Faeries By Batutinha...

ML morons, please learn rules before you make even bigger fool out of yourself...

by Spliff on 2008-04-10 13:42 MDT

@gypsy
Doran is slowly becoming the deck to beat...ill say it again and not just because of a ml win, im talking about due to a $1,000 SCG Open, and 2 city champs finals wins in 130 person fields over in europe...the deck doesnt need turn 2 doran to win, turn 2 bitterblossom is enough to beat most decks in t2. and not to mention the deck is nearly impossible to sideboard against

by FR34K on 2008-04-10 13:52 MDT
