magus of the moon in merfolk :ooo

mb gemstone mine for better mana fixing? i mean, sometimes in early game u may need lots of islands, u also have c commands...

by trueeevil on 2008-04-02 21:46 MST

UR merfolk is tech.

by Tms-Rock on 2008-04-02 21:53 MST

Indeed Ur folks is sweet, i had some pretty good match-ups GB elves,UW teachings,Mono Red lost to Finkel in the semi's good matches neways that build is just expiermental btw

by PolarBearGod on 2008-04-02 21:58 MST

Maybe someone can enlighten me here, but why is it that the majority of Faeries players seem content to run three Cryptic Command as opposed to the obligatory four in Merfolk decks? Are both decks not aggro? Even the two colored Merfolk builds run four Cryptics which seem to defeat the two-colored theory/argument.

Also, isn't the primary purpose behind adding black to the Ramp lists to gain Extirpate versus Lark in addition to Void? I guess you don't need it as much if you're not expecting a metagame with heavy amounts.

Magus FTW w/Voidmage lol

by Tms-Rock on 2008-04-02 22:14 MST

Haha indeed, magus = wizard why not :-P

by BoSMaN on 2008-04-02 22:20 MST

The mana ramp list seems like its going a little overboard with sweepers, unless that's really how many are needed to beat faeries

by LuCaparroz on 2008-04-02 22:31 MST

ur merfolk is very crap :P

by Finntroll on 2008-04-02 22:41 MST

Magus of the Moon in merfolk...cute idea. Props for originality there Tms-Rock.

I'm a bit surprised as well by the number of MD sulfurous blasts, especially when you're running black. I'd figure you could cut them out entirely of the MD (just run 4 thresher and then either 2 void and 1 extra sulfurous, or just go 3 void). Great meta choice though, you can't keep a good deck down :P

I gotta ask as well though...what's the deal with the crypts over extirpate?

by KrovikanMist on 2008-04-02 23:13 MST

Tms-Rock: why not have pyroclasm instead of incinerate for faeries matchup?

and hows the magus of the moon testing out?

I've been running pyroclasm and mogg fanatic in my Ur Faeries...(shh...secret tech)

by Tms-Rock on 2008-04-02 23:34 MST

Because pyroclasm kind of kills all my creatures, other than that idk :-P, but Incenirate was great all day honestly. And magus of the moon won me 2 match-ups striaght-up games 1/2 so i think its going well.

by Conkisstador on 2008-04-03 00:14 MST

ummm @ finntroll
sulfurous blast is the 2nd best card in standrd behind reveillark.

1 extra mountain needed to consistently get magus when u want it. that means -1 cryptic for sum effect.
lash out is better than incinerate as a sideboard card.
you're missing the key card for Ur though... sorry.

monored isnt a wretched matchup i dunno why so much hate for it in ykpon's list. kraken's eye... i mean cmon.

by Conkisstador on 2008-04-03 00:21 MST

and how did RG beat 2 merfolk decks... or should i ask how did merfolk lose twice to ramp? there's only like 3 cards that you need to worry about!

by Tms-Rock on 2008-04-03 01:08 MST

he had like 50 skreds every game lol, and 2nd and 3rd game i boarded in flashfreezes, for Magus, and i couldn't find any counters for his blasts/clasms :-(

by PolarBearGod on 2008-04-03 01:09 MST

Ummm Void, Skred, Blast, Incinerate, SGC, EOT 7/7, 0/5 Walls, a pair of 3/3 Beast factories, Tarmogoyf > than the whole U team, 2 whack-a-creature-lands, and 4 stout man lands.

Yeah, I'd have to say those are good cards.

by tg on 2008-04-03 07:19 MST

you shouldnt let him to use Finkel's name... its just dissgusting...

by gypsy on 2008-04-03 11:13 MST

conkisstador maybe because youre better than the other people or because your playing uw which is very different than ur or mono blue

by Tms-Rock on 2008-04-03 11:28 MST

Revilark in UW deff would help vs ramp

by hotalby on 2008-04-03 14:11 MST

conkisstador. have u made any changes to do ur deck recently?

by |kaoz| on 2008-04-03 15:03 MST

why am i nuts?! :O

by Finntroll on 2008-04-05 03:17 MST

@ Conkisstador
LOL, Sulfurous Blast is so not the 2nd best card in standard. It's a very good card, but not even close to 2nd best, especially when Tarmogoyf is running around (and I'm pretty sure last time I checked Tarmogoyf is played in more formats than sulfurous blast, which kinda proves just how good he is. That is, you know, if you don't want to go by his $40-$45 price range).
