by merfolkboy on 2008-03-29 14:33 MDT

Sweet i frickin love merfolk as you might be able to tell gj on the 1-2 finish.

by Dan1 on 2008-03-29 14:45 MDT

gj Shooter

by Finntroll on 2008-03-29 15:31 MDT

jesus, one website starts going off about merfolk and all of a sudden it's merfolk! merfolk! merfolk! everywhere. Mono colored is back alright, and it's back with a vengeance.

Good job to everyone. Tomorrow's master should be quite interesting...

by PolarBearGod on 2008-03-29 16:41 MDT

Glad to see the SCG metagame is shaping up so nicely. At least people are getting their money's worth on premium subscriptions lol.

OMGZ everyone plays merfolk (okay okay so only 2 people played it)! We must bring our anti-merfolk techz0rz! Pyroclasm FTW!

by sh0rty on 2008-03-29 17:13 MDT

LMAO

by Finntroll on 2008-03-29 17:57 MDT

Ok, so it wasn't being piloted by everyone, but people immediately took to trying out those decks after hearing almost everyone at SCG post the same article.

And PolarBearGod, pyroclasm is old tehk cause it gets countered. New secret tek (keep it a secret will ya!) is molten disaster.

by sandoiche on 2008-03-29 19:32 MDT

I heard Shooter and KyKiske were playing this deck BEFORE the SCG's article.

Also, good job to both, showing merfolk is a solid deck and that brazilian ownz m-l.

gl for everyone at tomorrows master :)

by mufl0n on 2008-03-29 19:40 MDT

ye,except that monored rips that deck apart and you dont need molten disaster

by DESTRUCTOR on 2008-03-29 19:44 MDT

wow merfolks on top!, and they are not exact 75 cards so there's more than 1 way to go...

by Spliff on 2008-03-29 20:44 MDT

mono red doesnt rip it apart its more 50/50, which is fine considering every other deck in the format rips mono red apart

by poopascoopa on 2008-03-29 21:29 MDT

Does merfolk beat faeries? How?

by ckfnpku on 2008-03-29 23:20 MDT

Islandwalk. No selfpain. More solid manabase. Lower curve. 8 lords.

by Conkisstador on 2008-03-30 00:09 MDT

news flash:
starcity steals decks from magic-league
(and its been happening for a while)

fish have always been great. there's no reason to not run 4 wanderwine hub tho. at least bluff white spells and hey...
you both forgot to play reveillark.

for any who doubt it or who are unoriginal enough to think building decks is impossible: we have a good community here. there are world-class players here. anyone can write an article.

and for finalists: did shooter win because his deck is *just* better? or was their an actual game to paly?

by Sandmann1 on 2008-03-30 03:52 MDT

It´s not so good to reveal your Deck when suspending first turn vision. I wouldn´t run wanderine hub.

by Lynolf on 2008-03-30 04:58 MDT

Go Tribal decks!!! ^^

by beule on 2008-03-30 07:31 MDT

lol i go 1-2 in PE on modo, shooter wins the trial.

Seems there are some differences in the skillz on different platforms :)

by ForzaAzzurri on 2008-03-30 07:42 MDT

Uhm, I played dragonstorm but went 1-0 drop, so not 1-1..

by gypsy on 2008-03-30 08:06 MDT

why would u run wanderwine hub in a mono blue deck, what does bluffing white spells do, i think you not giving away information is better than bluffing irrelevant spells

by sui_slush on 2008-03-30 08:07 MDT

Star City didn't originate merfolk. The deck was winning premier events on modo before it was a glimmer in anyone on scg's eye.

by Bballhopstar on 2008-03-30 08:08 MDT

I wouldent play pacifiszm in the mono white

by Eldariel on 2008-03-30 08:59 MDT

Riqus: Yea, I may have screwed up some ratings after 2-1s; as I said I was tired.

by PolarBearGod on 2008-03-30 10:27 MDT

by sandoiche on 2008-03-29 21:32 EDT
Also, good job to both, showing merfolk is a solid deck and that brazilian ownz m-l.

I was thinking that statement would best be read as SCG ownz m-l. What a coincidence that SCG gets a flood (no pun intended) of merfolk decks and the trial is won by SURPRISE - merfolk? But to each their own I guess.

by Conkisstador on 2008-03-30 02:09 EDT
news flash:
starcity steals decks from magic-league
(and its been happening for a while)

You have GOT to be kidding me? You're not serious right? Adrian Sullivan Kyle Sanchez, and Sean McKeown have no merits right? They scope out the m-l metagame to dictate their next columns, amirite?

by Shooter on 2008-03-30 11:14 MDT

PlarBearGod: basically, yes. Just look at ext season, where monored burn ,cloud and previous level blue, all of them defining decks in metagame, were first played here.
btw, who's kyle sanchez and sean smth?

by gypsy on 2008-03-30 11:29 MDT

kyle sanchez shouldnt be premium he is rly bad just like billy moreno

by spike101x on 2008-03-30 11:37 MDT

kyle sanchez is a duchebag him n all his rich preppy freinds. I remember beating him at PTQs back in 03-04

by poopascoopa on 2008-03-30 12:16 MDT

Wouldn't Ponder be better than Ancestral Visions since you don't have to wait 4 turns to draw?

by sandoiche on 2008-03-30 12:52 MDT

wouldnt drawing 3 be better than drawing 1 with a bit selection?

:)

by Vecc on 2008-03-30 13:54 MDT

Guess Lorwyn does live up to it's tribal theme. Good job, Top3. All solid builds.

by aldaryn on 2008-03-30 14:45 MDT

The writers may or may not copy what they see here vs. seeing what they do in the ptq metagame, but m-l is definitely always one step ahead of the ptq metagame, practically defining it, and gets little to no credit.

kyle sanchez is an idiot, sean mckeown deserves premium much more

by Kurse on 2008-03-30 14:50 MDT

May I ask what is up with the white weenie deck? The 1 Harrier and the 3 Knight of Meadowgrain is confusing to me. Why not just 4 Knights of Meadowgrain? And I wouldn't play Calicderm, either. Bitterblossom just blocks him all day. Why not something along the lines of Ronom Unicorn?

EDIT: I'm with everyone else. Sanchez's articles are beyond crap and really should not be premium. Adrian and Sean's articles, however, are very top notch reads.

by Eldariel on 2008-03-30 17:17 MDT

Kurse: Harrier is there for the curve considerations. I prefer 9 1-drops to 8. Really, I prefer 12, but I couldn't bring myself to drop 'em all. And Calciderm was great all day. Untargetable beatstick gets there, at the very least whittling down the opposing army. Remember that against Faeries, it's rarely swinging alone. If they use their Bitterblossom to block every turn, you've probably already won.

Ronom Unicorn isn't a horrible idea though; it's just not-Kithkin and not-awesome, so it probably needs to take Oblivion Ring-slot or something. And have more on the SB.

by KrovikanMist on 2008-03-30 21:11 MDT

would anyone take a merfolk deck to a big tournament instead of a faerie deck?

by Conkisstador on 2008-04-01 01:13 MDT

i did and won 100 bucks
