No metagame breakdown for this, as i am
not a competitive T1 player to find out most of the decks archetypes.

"There are a lot of decks with Demonic Tutor, Force of Will and Brainstorm in the Trial, most of them als o have Tinker"

30 such decks
10 Fish
1 Goblins

by Malhavoc on 2007-04-19 08:01 MDT

"TyranT" (sounds like the old T1T, of which mantains the average structure) is not very much like the classic Oath decks: it plays more like T1T infact, being not an aggro but a control with a control-combo finish.

All great games in the tournament, particularly the epic one against Laplie (playing Zambo), with a lot of spectacular plays. Another great game was the semifinal against Gift, where among other things I had my ancestral (double protected by 2 FoW) countered by THREE active FoW after he already played a REB on another spell.

In the final ArcTrickster (teammate and IRL friend) dropped in my favor.. almost a pity, it could have been a great final.

by Malhavoc on 2007-04-19 08:18 MDT

Here it is a deck breakdown:

-AGGROCONTROL:
WU Tang 11
Dark Tang 1
URBan Fish 1
UWR Fish 1

-AGGRO:
Ichorid 3
WR Weenie 1
Sea Stompy 1
Goblin 1
Sligh 1

-COMBO:
TPS 1
Charbelcher 1
Worldgorger 1

-CONTROL/COMBO
TyranT 1
Gifts 2
Bomberman 2
Intuition Tendrils 1

-CONTROL
Slaver 1
3CC 1
T1T 1
Zambo 1

- PRISON
Pentastax 1

Seems like WU Aggrocontrol is very popular, but the results with such deck archetype have been quite poor considering 1/3 of players played it. Many tier 1 decks managed to get on top despite the abundance of WU Tangs, which is a deck aimed at stopping Tier1 mainly, but seems to have failed doing so this time ;-)

by aceben3 on 2007-04-19 09:16 MDT

i played rwg zoo, hoping to crush a bunch of uw fish decks. i changed my board at the last minute and i think it may have cost me the match vs a gifts storm deck.

by P_P4E on 2007-04-19 10:26 MDT

all the props to pwnz for the decklist. I havent played in like 5 months so i obv got redic lucky most likely.

by darkring on 2007-04-19 11:49 MDT

omg ... drain slaver? what slaver dont play drains? lol ...
and 4 gifts , 4 merchant, 2 midsdirection and no REB and no rebuild in md? omg what a bad version of the deck ...

by Eldariel on 2007-04-19 11:57 MDT

darkring: Technically, Workshop Slaver exists. Just nobody has played it for a few years. Still, since it used to exist, the name of Drain Slaver has carried over as a distinction from Workshop Slaver.

I wonder if there is a good vintage deck that doesn't have 4 brainstorm

why would he play vs oath its like the worst deck

by TaZi on 2007-04-19 14:34 MDT

nice turney, but when I see ArcTricksters List now, I really wonder how he managed

game1: crypt + welder (turn 3 without tutor)
game2: needle + crypt + welder (turn 3 and welder 2 turns later without tutor)

o.O

but nice games

Many fish decks don't run brainstorm.

This metagame is kinda weird since M-L is usually all stax and fish. I guess the stax players left.

Those games vs Malhavoc were epic, though I probably gave away g1 by not bouncing Tidespout right away (though my chain of vapor could have run into a counter).

by Malhavoc on 2007-04-19 16:17 MDT

Really, I risked a bit not bouncing your Infestation before bouncing your lands and everything else.. fortunately I had enough gas to bounce enough zombies too, but I really took a unnecessary risk with that bad mistake.. I was just more in hurry to destroy your manabase after you drew so many cards with AK and ywill (AK mirrors can be deadly when you realize too late your opponent is running them too!).

Really great games, probably the best I had in the tournament. Zambo is a great deck and I used to play it in the past (though with a slightly different deck list).

by rafaruggi on 2007-04-19 21:34 MDT

I think Salvagers its pretty good at Oath. Lotus + Pyrite + Yawgmoth's Will. Yay!

mana ichorid don't, and it is one of the best decks to win every game 1. and have still pretty good game 2s and 3s. lots of the peeps that play it play it poorly i have noticed or simply play suppar lists (i know what i am talking about i HAVE WON power with the deck )

by Malhavoc on 2007-04-20 03:46 MDT

Ichorid is indeed strong, and wins many game 1. But just dies to side hate in the form of tormods, pithing, leyline and such; of course if the opponent is not prepared with grave hate it's another story. Personally, I find it boring to play too, since it's quite brainless and plays on its own, without any real added benefit from the player's skill. But it's indeed strong.

by _Jitte_ on 2007-04-25 17:26 MDT

Hey Malhvoc congrats, we play together in the quarter finals and i drop when we go 1-1.
Congrats and Thanxs for the games
