third !

by Meatwarz on 2006-07-08 08:40 MDT

And what a LOOOOL - how the hell did Trone won vs Sea Stompy?! Stompy got screwed every game or what?! ^^

by Kaesh on 2006-07-08 09:13 MDT

he won vs 2 sea stompys in top4 and top2, so clearly he must've been doing something right, and you're clueless.

by Mau07 on 2006-07-08 09:16 MDT

tron 3 in a row

by Reno43 on 2006-07-08 09:17 MDT

hmmm Sixth!

by SOAD on 2006-07-08 09:49 MDT

WAZZZUP<-----SPAM

by Streakz on 2006-07-08 10:02 MDT

Mortis' list is horrendous. He would have lost to me had he not drawn ALL of his counters TWICE. Thanks MWS.

by Angel- on 2006-07-08 10:08 MDT

Don't complain Streakz. I had the worst luck in t8 game 3. Bouncyer, without the aid of draw spells, topdecked almost all his anti-aggro cards one after the other. Repeal, WoG, WoG, Condemn, Condemn, Condemn consecutively. And I drew no Bathes or Solifuges =|

by Mau07 on 2006-07-08 10:11 MDT

nice top8 decks

by dizzy on 2006-07-08 10:16 MDT

tron putting up the numbers again congrats everyone!!!! LUCK is a part of it unfortunately. But tron is the best deck overall in the format.

by Fayul on 2006-07-08 10:20 MDT

Wow, not only did he beat stompy, he beat THoughts of Ruin stompy. Uhh, news flash, tron is really good. It's nice to see that people other than nards play tron: Just because it's a super-easy deck to play doesn't mean that you can't pick up some wins with skill. It's kinda like Affinity in that regard.

by ShaunD on 2006-07-08 10:38 MDT

Fayul, your ignorant, Tron isnt easy to play. And Mortis is an amazing player and made up for the bad match by playing really well (and it was 4am where i was :( )

by Angel- on 2006-07-08 10:46 MDT

Fayul, tron is one of the most easiest decks to beat if u kno what you're doing. I have to say I'm surprised as hell that BOTH Sea Stompy decks lost to Mortis.

Um it's easy. Play critter early and either play thoughts or protect your beats with c-spells until u draw thoughts or win.

I've beaten Tron too many times with UGr Beats (Grafters, Lasher, Slum and C-SPells) because I get out big beats early and protect with C-Spells.

Even Zoo can beat Tron with the quick rush and end it with either Jitte or burn.

Probably the only deck Tron can consistently beat is BW Aggro because tron has quite a few anti-BW cards.

by Mau07 on 2006-07-08 10:49 MDT

tron is difficult to play
but no so hard like a hard counter deck
or hearbeat

by Kaesh on 2006-07-08 11:06 MDT

What the fuck are you all talking about.
Red-: Zoo is Tron's hardest matchup. Sea Stompy is much easier, because you can overpower them before they kill you.
Mau07: Tron is much harder to play than any other control deck. UR control plays itself, UW and BW (and variants) require some thought, but much less than tron.

by Tuto- on 2006-07-08 11:32 MDT

ShaunD you didn't win Moron! xD

Tuto-

by ShiK_ri on 2006-07-08 11:40 MDT

I screwed up both games against Mortis=( bad luck eh...

by Shyft- on 2006-07-08 11:41 MDT

I agree that Tron is actually not a hard deck to beat, but no deck has a dominating matchup against it. Tron is special because it controls its own destiny. When it gets its best draws, it doesn't lose. It's kind of like Magnivore, except that the God Draw for Tron is more powerful and more immediate. Every match with the deck is like a giant coin flip. If enough people roll a 20-sided die, someone is bound to roll a 20, in this case it was Mortis instead of the other 10 Tron players out of the 80 registered. That's how it goes.

On other notes, ShiK_ri has given me some vindication. I was TCing last night so I couldn't play, but his Sea Stompy list is a list I created almost 6 months ago, card for card except that the Breeding Pools where Yavimaya Coasts back then. Every maindeck and sideboard card is exactly what I used. =) Apparently, someone looked at my history (or one of my teammates'), updated it with the Breeding Pools, beat ShiK_ri with it, and he took it all the way to $30 and a Top 5 Magic-League Constructed Rating.

Magic is amusing.

by Spyx on 2006-07-08 11:42 MDT

nice lists

by Anti-Christ on 2006-07-08 12:48 MDT

Who says Tron is hard to play? Tron take very mediocre skill level to play, the choices are relatively simple. Granted it's a little harder than most decks but to say it takes a great amount of skill is very far fetched and simply untrue.
Tron is the ebst deck in the format and it shows.

by aznjdude2006 on 2006-07-08 12:58 MDT

YEA yalls are lucky you guys didn't have to face my MONO RED control.

by ShaunD on 2006-07-08 13:09 MDT

Every one who says Tron is easy to play is ignorant or not in the top 8. Tron is hard to play right. Any one who says other wise is a moron and should be forced to wear a helmet when on the internet or around other people. Mortis done a very good job and obv knew how to win. He deserved the win.

by uberman on 2006-07-08 13:18 MDT

"Mortis' list is horrendous"

I'm sure those 4 Court Hussars just raped tron huh?

by TylerTMK on 2006-07-08 13:28 MDT

I love how ShaunD responds to everyone by calling them morons like hes better than everyone else and know more than them

by Fayul on 2006-07-08 14:13 MDT

You misunderstand me. Tron is like affinity: easy to get some random wins but hard to actually play -well-. Tron doesn't offer a lot of opportunities for skill to come through, so a good player can maximise well on those opportunities.

by Meatwarz on 2006-07-08 14:50 MDT

So much whineres here...

Nice to see Sea Stompys in Top.

Gratz for Mortis for winning MASTER and winning 2 unfovaurable match-ups in a row.

by _bouncyer_ on 2006-07-08 15:15 MDT

No Love for the UW? I mean its not as if i had byes and i believe me and haro were the only two to pilot the deck, while haro dropped while he could still t8. Give some respect to a deck that i've proven over and over to be very viable.

-Bouncy Loving the Twincast

by Rotstejn on 2006-07-08 15:17 MDT

Nice top 8 indeed but no kind of BW ?

by Angel- on 2006-07-08 15:20 MDT

Be quiet Bouncyer, u lucksacker! Even tho u were basically the only bad mu I had in t8, you still lucksacked!

I still look for my Solifuges and Bathe and they were no where to be found :P

by DaZogger on 2006-07-08 15:31 MDT

mmhhhh thére was a coment wich said tron has no bad mus
but it loose against heartbeat, zoo and stompy gruul is maybe to slow
against other control decks it could be difficult because u have no hardcounters or only a few like 4
all in all tron is not sooooo good some people say but its a "soft-affinity" whic can take random wins, not so much like affinity if a good plyr plays tron then the deck is better

cYaaaaaaa

by ShaunD on 2006-07-08 16:14 MDT

Tyler, you should be forced to where a helmet.

by buda on 2006-07-08 21:55 MDT

so how the metagme can be disectec?

tron < aggros(stompy,rackdos,gruul,zoo)

BW and oher control > aggros(stompy, rackdos, gruul, zoo)

tron > BW other controls

like this?????

by Quantumdemon on 2006-07-08 22:26 MDT

Well I believe Tron's only bad matchups are Zoo decks and heartbeat. I know because the only deck I lost to the whole tournament was a G/W zoo deck. Gruul isnt too bad of a matchup, it's a little easier because they have to be aggressive with mulling because a lot of their draws have too many 1 toughness creatures. Like ooh I get to electrolyze a Dryad sophisticate AND a Frenzied goblin, yay.

Congrats to Mort for his Master performance, good job Shyft on running the tourney and congrats to me for my first master and first master top 10 with Sizzetron. :-)

Edit: Oh btw, tron is powerful enough to pilot itself against bad decks, but fyi, when you play good players, it taKes a lot of skill to win against tough matchups.

by Rotstejn on 2006-07-09 02:52 MDT

not really budo, the metagame can be disected but not so small there are to much decks to disect this metagame perfectly ...

by xerocat on 2006-07-09 09:43 MDT

ShaunD with a trial win and Top 4 within 2 days ^_^ (Shaun, stop refreshing)

by Custode on 2006-07-10 04:51 MDT

I agree with Quantumdemon.

by Sun-Tzu on 2006-07-12 05:57 MDT

There are quite a few interesting decisions to be made when playing Tron:

Do you tap out to play Compulsive Research on turn 3 when you need to draw lands?
What do you discard to Compulsive Research when you can't/don't want to discard land?
How much damage can you afford to take before Wildfire?
Do you play Tidings when you know you'll have to discard a few cards?
Which lands do you sacrifice to Wildfire in those cases that Wildfire doesn't win the game immediately? Do you keep Tron at the expense of your second blue source?
Do you Electrolyze to the head to draw into land when there might be better targets somewhere down the line?
etc.
etc.
....

There are actually quite a few decisions that require quite some skill and good judgment. Anyone can win turn 3 Keiga (or Simic Sky Swallower) games, but the existence of a no-brainer goddraw doesn't even remotely imply it's an easy deck to play.

by TugaChampion on 2006-07-13 06:17 MDT

Tron is broken!!!

by mikeg542 on 2006-07-19 11:31 MDT

I tried out tron...didn't work at all, I always got a nice starting hand, but drew NO land for the rest of the game, even with card draw stuff, I was just drawing in more of the same over and over...but thats probably my bad luck shining through(I played 5 games, same thing every game)
